I am not at all sad that I appear to have never quite gotten around to participating in this thread last year. 2016 was a complete hot mess of a year for me, and not entirely in the ways that seemingly everyone else was down on it. For example, I went into the year with the expressed intention of finding an am partner and focusing on that side of things. There was a whole lot less of that than general motivational collapse.
But ... it's a new year. And there's never a better time for a fresh start than the present. Especially given that I do make my open debut in scarcely more than two weeks.
So while my overall NY resolutions look something like "get right with myself, body and soul", here are a few dance-specific ones that will hopefully further those goals:
- Spend more time on the practice floor, less time in front of my home computer screen. Goodness knows I spend quite enough time staring at a screen at work.
- I like the idea of aiming for USDC this year. It almost always overlaps with my birthday, and I turn 40 this year. (Good God.) The idea of dancing on Wednesday and celebrating my birthday on Thursday has a lot of appeal to me. Especially given how much family I have in Florida. But since there's too much that could happen between now and then that might make it impractical - get my dancing to the point where I'd feel comfortable competing there in open. I mean at all. If the competition happens for me, my results-orientated goals would be *very* modest.
- Go social dancing at least once a month. I don't even necessarily mean ballroom either. We have a good swing group locally that I could drop in on more often. The thing is, while social dancing isn't really my thing - less personal isolation could only be good for me.
