Check your local PBS station for 2004 IDSF World Latin, Standard and Ten Dance Championship programming! Latin was already shown in my area last Wednesday (the night of DWTS final) and Standard will be next Wednesday night at 7pm CST.

More and more dancsport on TV, yeah :D :D :D

These programs played earlier in the summer in my area. I taped all three, and they are all great shows!! Hopefully they come on again here so I can get better quality video using my new DVD recorder :)

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I haven't found anything, yet, but I'll keep looking. 8)

I've got DirecTV in San Francisco, and couldn't find anything...yet.

HOWEVER, "So You Think You Can Dance" is starting up on Wednesday the 20th. This is the "American Idol"-style show hosted by Paula Abdul for dancers. Originally I heard that they weren't going to take dancesport couples, but I'm guessing that the success of "Dancing with the Stars" changed that because I know that Artem C. & Giselle Peacock auditioned and were called back to be on the show! It will be on at 8pm on Fox, check local listings.

Dancing with the Stars will be renewed for next season.

Larry King Live yesterday hosted the winners and runners up of Dancing With the Stars. The show was very complimentary, and throughout the interviews (I think they went on for an hour), the caption at the bottom of the screen referred to the show as "the new reality tv sensation".
From these interviews:
1- Dancing with the Stars is going to be renewed. It was constantly referred to as "the first season" of the show. The producer said that the decision to renew was "understood" by everyone (or words to that effect), given the success of the show, but has not been formally announced.
2- Alec Mazo's plans are to open a local studio and franchise it.
3- Charlotte is planning with John O'Hurley to take their show to Broadway. Seriously. Now this is going to be interesting.

And if all that wasn't enough, "CNN Tonight" later had a long feature about the movie Mad About Ballroom.

ARGHGH! i wish i had a chip in my head that told me when shows i might be interested are going to be on!

i know, i know: TIVO. but i don't want to shell out for it!

Just to be clear, "local" means LA-area. Alec's mom started the very successful Genesis DanceSport in San Francisco many years ago. I've heard rumors for years that they were thinking of opening a LA branch, and it seems that doing it now is a great idea -- strike while the iron is hot and all that. They're focussed on youth dancesport and have turned out some great young couples, particuarly in Latin. I guess they're going to try to franchise their name and methods and get more kids dancing. I think that's cool, but I have to wonder...it seems from my point of view as a local competition registrar that the vast majority of their kids come from the former Soviet Republics (or from parents from there). Will the Genesis method work with kids from the (and I hate to generalize but) less-disciplined/less-dance-aware normal "we've-been-here-for-several-generations" American culture? I just can't see the usual American yuppie type parent standing for having some teacher yell at the kids until they get something right. It could be more "drill sargent"-like than parents and kids raised on TV and video games could take.

It's totally worth it -- and they keep coming out with new models, so maybe you can find a used one somewhere? I bought a lifetime subscription for my first TiVo and later gave it to a friend when we upgraded to the DirecTV/TiVo option. She's been using it just fine at her house for well over a year now. My point is that if you can find a used one, it can be made to work, and if you're lucky you'll find someone like me who has already paid for the lifetime subscription so then you're all set!

long feature about the movie Mad About Ballroom.

I saw this! Very cute.

I swear I have TV ADD. I can't stay at a channel for more than about 10 seconds. I make my husband look decisive.

I have this friend who can't move off a channel in less than 2 minutes and he considers that to be rushing himself.

   Hide the remote... from yourself. Having to get up and walk to the TV every time makes whatever you're watching look so much better.
