Dancing at the beach

Have any of you ever danced in the sand at the beach? I did it for the first time in recent memory this past weekend with someone. It was amazing. We did salsa, waltz, rumba, and some tango. The control it takes to dance in the sand was incredible, and I was thoroughly worn out afterwards. Almost any dance requires the ankles to be worked, and I sure got it dancing in the sand.

The amazing thing was, when I came back and got on the studio floor and started warming up with a few turns... wow! It felt so easy...! I was doing doubles in the sand, and I guess the control I used for dancing in the sand carried over and turning on an actual dance floor was a breeze! Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon? Maybe I should set up a sandbox as an ankle strenghtening exercise...? :)

interesting.... dancing on the beach...

just curious... was it on loose, dry sand, or more packed/level/slightly wet sand? I'd imagine it's alot harder on loose, dry sand!

sure did.. was nice.. i danced in the sea water too..

scared some fish.. but they'll get over it..

yes, it was on the dry sand away from the water--quite challenging!

I used to run on the beach when I live in S. Florida. Any runner will tell you that a mile on the beach wears you out much worse than a mile on pavement.

I've never seen or done Carolina shag, but apparently it's a dance with very few turning or spinning steps. Supposedly, this is because it originated at Myrtle Beach, where it was danced in the sand.

aww...one time I took a girl out to a dock, and we danced on the pier at night under the romantic moon and puffy clouds. Haha, it was so much fun,

We had a local good salsa band, Machina Loca, play a sunset concert at the beach - late summer evening, only gets dark at 9pm, perfect windless day, sun setting over the sea, and they were selling candles for a charity - so as it got dark everyone lighted lots of candles all around... amazing experience, but, yes, tiring!

locomotion on sand is stressed to be negative for the ankles as they hold much of the weight and control of the body which isn't naturally that way...

I used to play beach volleyball, go through plyometrics, and run on sad in preparation for Lacrosse season. afterwards when I attempted physical activities on hardsufraces my reaction significantly increased.

In Puerto Rico there are beach concerts, the sand is the dance floor. It's a blast.

beach

Many pro. soccer teams in the u.k. used to train on the beach , and beach dancing is quite common in Fla. ( too damn much sand !! )

I've never danced on the sand, but I did some running on the sand when I was abroad and it was quite a workout each time! The salsa cruise I am attending will have a live beach concert so I can tell you afterwards what it felt like to dance on the sand. :)
