Dancing Barefoot

'Fess up. Have you ever done it? Plusses, minuses? Anyone?

(And yes, dancing in just socks, counts.  )

In socks on occasion - general dance at a comp when I didn't have shoes on, etc.

One thing to watch out for is that two people locally have broken toes this way. In one case it was a slightly misaligned outside partner step, where the woman's little toe collided with the front corner of the heel of the man's shoe.

Though to do spins. (Better with socks on)

Personally I don't get the same feel when dancing in socks. It may be just a case of practice though.

It's great dancing with bare feet on grass in the summer.

(And you end up with green feet, and don't need the ebay socks)

Done it in socks once, for contra dancing, and got blisters. Never again.

Yep Sagitta. Ouch! Although sliding across the floor in socks used to be quite fun until I developed sensitive feet. Ugh, the problems that come with again. :?

yes... done some rehearsals... my feet ached so badly I needed to take the shoes off... the spins went just fine when my feet got covered with a layer of floor dust!

I'm planning on going to a "Sock Hop" on Saturday. It's a Lindy venue, but this will be more of a 50's theme. I'm planning on wearing my thicker socks, but will be keeping my dance shoes (sueded sneakers) in reserve.

Any suggestions? Or warnings?

I've danced in socks a couple of times when my feet hurt. While it does make a few things easier, like spins, I think it's better to dance in my dance shoes. It's a difference balance feel with the socks than with my 2 1/2 inch heels.

Try dancing on socks on a uneven dancefloor - splinters in the feet.

Yes. I grew up in a hundred-plus year old house with lovely hardwood floors. Splinters galore! :x

I have tile, linoleum and carpet in my newer (and oh-so-boring) house, so splinters are no longer a problem. I kind of miss the hardwood floors, though. :(

I love dancing barefooted, if there were ever a guaranteen of no broken glass!

Dancing on grass is great fun! You can spin & slide pretty well after the rain too  !

I have a pretty impressive layer of callous on the balls of my feet so blisters are not an issue 8) .
