Dancing in LA 7/7 and 7/8

I'll be in LA for a wedding on 7/9. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go dancing? That Saturday evening would probably be better than that Friday evening, but I'll happily take suggestions for either.

Thanks,
Christopher

Christopher, LA is a very big place in terms of travel time. We can help you better if you give us a handle on where you'll be staying, for example downtown LA, Redondo Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Thousand Oaks, Anaheim. I assume you are looking for a nightclub, but maybe a studio? Also, not too far from the LA sprawl (that is, if your traveling all the way from the East Coast) the Desert Classic is being held that weekend (July 7-9) a couple hours from LA with about 10 judges from overseas (Russia, UK, Greece, Finland).

I'll be staying east of Beverly Hills, south of Hollywood. I believe if I'm playing volleyball it will be at Redondo Beach.

I'll have to look into seeing some of the competition. I'll probably know a lot of people there. Maybe some of my competitors? Porfirio? DancerForLife? Will you be out there, Larinda?

Generally I prefer studios to clubs because I get more variety in an evening. But I've spent plenty of evenings in salsa clubs, milongas (been a while), country bars, etc.

Thanks,
Christopher

Its a bit of a drive, but the Desert Classic is in Palm Desert that Friday through Sunday. The judging panel is increidible so I'm hoping it will draw some high level competitors.

Christopher, I was hoping you'd get some more help. In addition to the Desert Classic idea, I know of the Westmoor studio (of John Morton fame) in downtown LA and the Dance Doctor in Santa Monica. We'll really need input from someone local to help further.

We've usually attended the Desert Classic during that time, and we're a Dr's appointment away from making that decision (hopefully good news). I haven't been social dance in LA for such a long time, since they closed the Coconunt Club at the Beverly Hilton. It was a full big band orquestra that played other ballroom tunes, too, and then at a certain hour, a salsa band took over... those were the days! I may have to google and see if they are bringing that theme back, even if on a limited basis (once a month) because dancing is getting popular again (since the swing boom of the 90's).

Otherwise, we're in San Diego, 2-hours south of Beverly Hills.

We're probably going to be in LA for a taping of SYTYCD on July 3rd, so we'll just miss you ;-)

Thanks for the replies. I think I might go to the Desert Classic, at least for one evening, especially if any of my instructors are competing. Porfirio, I'll keep an eye out for you there.

Christopher
