Dancing Up?

Is there any benefit to dancing up a level?

I have done it and will probably continue to do so as I have had great results so far.
But are we just one of a few cases or is this pretty normal? (Placing and winning at higher levels I mean)

Do you think it makes you a better dancer? We only use the one routine for the 2 levels so its pretty much the lower level routine and syllabus figures in the higher grade.

If you are regularly placing in the higher level, you might contemplate making that your competition level. There is no rule that says you have to use any steps that would not have been legal in lower levels, so keep working on the material your teacher thinks is most educational.

We would like to move up a level but unfortunately we have to wait for the elevation points, and to get those we must dance and win enough elevation competitions, most of which we have been unable to get to due to other commitments and travel.
The thing with the routine is that we arent allowed to dance the higher syllabus in the lower grade and as that is technically our grade we have our routines set to that level otherwise we would need 2 routines for each dance, and we (unfortunantly!) dont have the time or money for that.
Teachers seem to think that we are ok as we are for now...but like most people I want to get better quickly!

The way to get better quickly is to master the simple steps.

Trying to win an intermediate level competition with only the newcomer-level step list can be a fun little project ;-)

Yes I agree with that!

I almost enjoy placing at level 2 more than I do winning 1 ! I always say to my partner "We had to do it with basics and we beat X many people!"
Its a nice feeling though, and it just goes to show that a basci done well is still as good as all the flasy steps :D

at comps, my partner and i dance up a level and we usually place pretty well...

we do it so
1. we are seen on the floor and judges get to put a name to a face and get to know who you are.
2. for fun...its pretty boring going to a comp and only doing your level and or open.
and 3. to get another trophy or something shiny :)
you pay to get into a comp to dance, so why not, if you can dance upo a level... go for it i say...
