Dancing with two followers simultaneously

I've see advanced dancers and teachers dancing with two followers at the same time. Is this something you just pick up easily, or is it something which needs to be taught? Thanks.

Depends. A little easier with merengue then salsa. It is a matter of figuring out new ways of doing things - moves that can be done to both followers, moves that work well alternating followers etc. I can do a little, but I prefer dancing with one person, personally.

It's not something that needs to be taught (and, come to think of it, I've never seen it even offered anywhere) but I wouldn't say that it's oicked up *easily* either! I'll double lead in salsa from time to time, but it's quite the mental workout as I only have one hand available for each partner. This means that my leads have to be very, very clear, as I don;t have a second hand available to "assist" and that I can't just switch alignments to compensate (since I have another partner I'm connecting with at the same time). Even moreso then with 1-to-1 salsa, double leading requires starting nice and easy and working your way up slowly as your clarity and control improve.

i dont believe it needs to be taught.. as u get more confident and relaxed in your dancing it'll happen naturally from time to time.. if u care for it that is.. personally, i like it and do it when there are the two ladies' with compatible styles up for it.

I've seen it in a Be-Bop evening. Be-bop suits this, as the leader is basically static while the follower moves around him.

I do it usually when the dj put a boring salsa, or too much known... to find the desire to joke and have fun

In my salsaclass it is usually done as kind of an warming up exercise since there are usually twice as many women as men. It is easier to start trying it with merengue because one needs only to concentrate on the right way to lead and not also on steps. Even though we do it frequentl at class we were never really taught specific moves or anything for it. It's only kind of experimental.

:) We taught it several times... guys and girls seem to love it! :)

We've also taught passing one follower from one leader to the other... :)
