Deciding What to Wear

When you are choosing your wardrobe for an evening of dancing(esp. salsa), what points do you take into consideration? Sex appeal? Comfort? Durability?
For me, number one is comfort. (If I'm going to be wearing it for 5 hours or so and sweating in it, is it going to hold up? Will the dyes run? Will little fringy things or sequins get torn off?) Number two is sexiness. Since salsa is a very sexy dance, I try to wear something that will compliment my figure. Number three is something I always worry about- is it SAFE? (Will I trip myself in it? Will my heels get caught up in the hem? Will I slap some poor guy in the face with it? Will the thigh-high slits in my pants wrap themselves around my legs and get me tangled up?) The examples of the above dilemmas come from actual experiences, BTW! at the time but  now!

Well, I've learned my lesson this past weekend. NEVER wear anything with a snap top! Even if you have twenty of them on your shirt.  They NEVER stay fastened. Thank goodness I was among friends and found a severe paper clip. It was hilarious!!!

I tend to look a color first, the what I THINK is safe and comfortable.

I bought some sexy stuff with super-skinny "leatherette" straps that I can just bet will rip off within an hour of dancing, so I have refrained from wearing them so far...I have a really sexy chain-mail-like back strapless halter thing that I've had since I was 19 and got a lot of dates from just wearing it to formal parties. I am thinking I would like to wear it for dancing, but am wondering if the thing would RUST given it's made entirely of metal links & I'd be sweating in it!!!

Comfort!! It has to move with me, not restrict any movement and be cool and breathable.
Then it has to stay on  Nothing strapless for me! And nothing that ties like halters. Must have straps that wont come undone!

Yes. All of the above. ;)

When I buy clothes for dancing, what I look for are sex appeal, ventilation and staying power. It has to be close-fitted but cool (no sleeves, light material, etc.), and safe! If it looks as if it may reveal more than I want to show or move/slip/fall off/catch the leaders hands, it's not suitable for dancing.

When I decide what to wear for the night, the main consideration is the venue. If it's a dancers-only night, I dress up (dress or skirt). If it's a place that attracts a lot of drinking crowd, I dress down (trousers & plain top).

my clothes always reflect what I want other people to think of me. When I go out to do some LA-Style I wear sleeveless shirts and some sort of street-style pants - rather sporty, but that's what I wanna tell the people. When going out like on Saturday evening and there would be many people who don't know how to dance salsa it's a less sporty but more a social venue: asking various people for a dance and then have a drink, talk a little bit, etc. then I wear more dressy clothes. BUT I couldn't imagine ever wearing a suit because I don't feel comfortable dancing then. And also a suit is something I wear when I am going to work. Since dance and work are 2 absolute different things for me I would never merge these things anyway.

I agree....

and where to put the money.

My new shoes has an extra innersole - I can put my money inbetween the soles. :D

(This shoe i magic. I found them at a shop for "ortopedical" shoes. It was a huge shop full of nice modern shoes - not the boring type you usually find in this kind of shop. And all of the shoes has a innersole you can remove and replace with your private one. You know the handmade type built for your own feet with extra arch support and pilottes etc. The sole is excellent for dancing. I had them on dancing for 16 hours last weekend. Nothing in my feet did hurt afterwards but everything else did hurt...
