Diaper Etiquette

What is diaper etiquette when you visit someone’s house with your 3 year old child? More specifically, where do you change the diapers, and what do you do with the dirty diaper? Also if you are a host, how do you accommodate it?

you could offer the use of a bedroom... and if i were the mother, i'd ask where i could change the child, and i'd ask where to dispose of the diaper. as long as it's wrapped up well, you'll be pretty protected from the smells indoors for the short-term. but since you're not a parent yourself, you might want to put it directly in your outside bin, if you can...

i would never have changed a diaper directly on someone's bedspread... ick... that would truly be very bad form... yep, definitely a towel, whether on floor or elsewhere.

ziplock bags or even plastice bags from the store are a must...there are also portable changing pads which are a bit more water resistant than a towel...

I heard a story on the radio, of a mother who changed her baby whilst on one of the trains in the underground/metro in London! Needless to say, fellow commuters were unhappy and moved to the other side of the carriage, as quickly as possible - it was a messy nappy apparently. According to the person who phoned in, the mother seemed totally oblivious to having done anything "wrong".

Made me ask myself a few questions... what is a mother (or father to do)? If they are on a long journey and they are in such a circumstance? The trains used on the underground do not have toilet facilities. Do you leave the child in a nappy that will result in it screaming its head off for the whole journey? (and upset fellow commuters who will be disturbed by the crying baby) Do you get off at the next station and do the deed, but risk a long delay in the next train coming? Or, as do you do as this mother did and "upset" fellow commuters? Still haven't found an answer yet :?
