Dissolution of the NY USA Dance Board

For those who didn't receive the e-mail, as of today, the National Board of USA Dance has decided to dissolve the NY USA Dance chapter's board. As a member who's collaborated with the board and proudly supports them and the great work that they're doing, I find this absolutely abhorrent and reprehensible. I know the members of the board, and I know the hard work and energy that they've put into their duties, and many of the National Board's accusations are patently and verifiably untrue; I'm sure that the evidence will prove it.

Text of the e-mail that was sent to the chapter members is copied and pasted verbatim below.

Re: Chapter Status
Dear Chapter #3004 Members,
It is with deep regret that I must inform you of an undesirable series of events that have transpired over the past few months between the USA Dance Chapter #3004 Board and members of the USA Dance Governing and DanceSport Councils. The Chapter Board either in its entirety or in part has lost sight of their responsibilities as a Chapter to the national organization. This has been exemplified in communications between Ms. Margot Garnick (Chapter #3004 President) and USA Dance National Governing Council members regarding Chapter financial operations and the Manhattan Amateur Classic where it was clearly demonstrated that the Chapter Board is unwilling to adhere to USA Dance Bylaws, Policies, and DanceSport Rules. As stated in the Bylaws each chapter is a constituent body of USA Dance and its officers must abide by the Bylaws, Policies, Rules and Regulations of USA Dance or its subordinate bodies.
Regrettably, in recent months communications with Chapter #3004 leadership and the USA Dance Governing Council have consisted of the following:
The latest communication from Ms. Garnick contained an ultimatum which threatened to take the Manhattan Amateur Classic independent of USA Dance unless a series of stipulations that are contrary to the DanceSport rulebook were met. The Chapter Board had been previously informed that these stipulations did not adhere to the Rulebook. Moreover, such demands are unacceptable to USA Dance as is the unsanctioned use of USA Dance assets and resources if this were to continue.
Numerous requests over the past few months by members of the DanceSport Council to the Chapter #3004 Board by Governing Council members to discuss the Manhattan Amateur Classic business plan including the revenue and cost structure have repeatedly been ignored.
The past Treasurer was removed from the Chapter #3004 board in part for communicating with the USA Dance Treasurer and DanceSport Council regarding the financial status of the Chapter and the MAC.
Although unfortunate the Governing Council views this situation as untenable and as a result the USA Dance Governing Council has instructed all members of the USA Dance Chapter #3004 Board to immediately cease and desist in the execution of any and all USA Dance related contracts, financial transactions, competition organization, and internet activity.
It is my sad duty to inform you that the USA Dance Chapter #3004 Board has been dissolved. However, the Chapter remains in place and the Governing Council will take every action needed to support the chapter, reform the board and to make the 2019 MAC a success as an NQE on the same dates and in the same location as had been planned.
Moving forward the USA Dance Governing Council will appoint a Chapter Board from the current Chapter #3004 members. We are requesting that any member (including the current board members that were either unaware of or opposed to the above actions) of Chapter #3004 interested in serving on the Chapter Board contact Greg Warner (senior-vp@usadance.org) immediately and supply him with background information along with the board role you are interested in filling.
We will hold a conference call for all chapter members on August 17 & 18, 2018 at 3:00pm Eastern Time. The call in number is: 630.381.0695.

"Board has been dissolved"? I thought they resigned en masse. Haven't been following super closely aside from seeing occasional posts on FB. And then the Cone of Silence came down...

I am a member, and the emails have been more scarce. August 28 I received an email about the Chicago comp, and August 2nd I received an email about petitioning for a young man with Downs Syndrome to appear on DWTS. I recall before Glenn left they (including Glenn) tried to have a dance camp in Orange County, but I heard that they cancelled it due to a lack of registrations.

So I am asking they have the overall chapter structure intact, but have lost ground on the comp side.

That being said we don't have PBS Championship Ballroom Dancing anymore either. Though there is DWTS, I don't think that is filling up the studios, so I don't the NDCA leaning orgs have taken what USAD lost.

Interestingly, our sister site salsaforums.com is 50% more active. Maybe Salsa is a little more free of the politics. But I can only guess.

What's the story here ... will any new USA Dance Chapter open in the NYC/LI region? I don't see a working website so I assume none exists ... by the way does another know of any (good?) studios that have international style group classes in Brooklyn/Queens/Nassau/Suffolk...seems 97+% of studios are salsa or american geared

very VERY serious about their Latin; VERY serious about their Standard
I saw someone at IDBDC last week with a t-shirt from that place ... I should have spoken to him
place is further than I was looking for with typical traffic on the Belt but I could give it a try ... also looking for a studio that has classes focused on each dance not on the latin/standard as a whole (I'm more 3 and 3 or 6-dance, not 10-dance ... BUT looks like an active place according to online info... looking for more quality instruction that is closer to the syllabus books (anyone there have ISTD or WDSF certification?) and variation books (Hearn, Moore, Ramain) ...
if you or anyone else has more familiarity with the place, any chance you know how well attended the syllabus adult classes and the breakdown of singles/partners? also, are you confined to one level or do they allow you to take multiple level classes?

very active studio
very high quality instruction
you might want to google the principal teachers there -- that'll tell you their qualifications
you could also call the studio to ask about attendance and breakdown of singles/partners

multiple level classes? well... if you are a silver dancer taking bronze classes to refresh your skills and get a deeper understanding of basics, more power to you. If you're a bronze dancer wanting to take a silver class in which you may be out of your league and/or totally lost, perhaps you might want to think HARD about doing that. (I speak from bitter experience, fwiw)

The Mac 2020 thread has a link to a Facebook group with more information. From what I can figure out from there, the governing council and the chapter had some differences of opinion that got pretty tense, with the result that the board of the chapter resigned in protest to things that the governing council was imposing.
