Do you know these teachers?

Over the next few months I'll be trying to work out what combination of private lessons, workshops and immersion course would be good for my tango development as a lead without hurting my wallet too much at next year's NZ Tango Fest.. but I don't really know anything about the teachers which makes this hard to do.

I'd appreciate any insight you'd have on any of these people (I know some are Australia based, but some are Argentine and USA based.. so hopefully you might know something about them as teachers).

Theses two are one of my all time favorites. I had several workshops with them and also took a lot of privates. It seldom occurs that a student teacher relation really works. But this one does. I can understand their language (not in the sense of english or spanish, more in the way of putting concepts into words), their dance technique really is challenging (they have a ballet background), their vocabulary totally fits what is possible for me on the dance floor, their dancing style is so pleasant old-fashioned, and they are so straightforward easy to get on with. And, of course, I like their promo photos.

So dont mis them!

If I were to take one 2 hour private lesson with Alicia Pons or Rosas/Natoli as a leader at a good intermediate* level, what would you suggest as a good topic to take best advantage of their expertise?

Not sure you need any topics in advance. I've only ever had privates which start by dancing with the teacher, who then generally finds plenty to work on, exactly tailored for me. Even if you have a specific topic, good teachers will work it round to what you need to work on. Have fun, T.

That's usually how I do things when I take private lessons. I generally tell them something I'd like to work on if we have time, but always have them work on what they think needs working on first.

One thing you ought to know though from just looking at the vids of the teachers suggested is that they dance in different styles, using some contrasting techniques so be prepared to be told different things by them in your lessons. It can be a good thing if you are still searching for the way you like best to dance, to experience differing opinions on techniques, but it can also be confusing if you are unprepared.

In Alicia's case, just let her teach. She will probably ask you what you want to work on, though. If you don't have a specific topic on top of your head, ask what in her opinion could you do next to improve your tango.

Oh, and I wanted to mention, if you have a possibility to take a group class/workshop with Alicia, I highly recommend to take advantage of that, too.
