Do your dance goals change?

What are your dance goals? Do they change? How often do they change? Is it life that changes them? Do you adapt them easily to what is going on in your life?

well....we have "what are your goals" elsewhere.....as to whether or not they change...they change for me....they have changed about twice for me...and yes, life events or time in the partnership usually me in different directions...I think it is always wise to continue to evaluate the merits of any goal/practice over time for whether or not you still want what you think you wanted, for whether ornot the relationships you are in are working for you, for what you might need to do to improve or change your circumstances

Yes, absolutely. I've had some major life events drastically alter my goals in the past year, and I think I've also come to dial back the competitive focus of my goals to focus more time on the journey and my own growth (which might be a cop out way of saying I have no freaking clue what my goals are and can't be bothered to examine them).

What I don't like it the feeling of I'm as good as my last competition. I try to create goals that are about being a better dancer, and a kind person.

I try to continuously reassess short term goals in order to keep them updated. I've had two long term goals (dance gold and not look stupid before graduating and dance open) which I've adjusted as I've met them (current long term goal is to dance champ-standard and not look ridiculous)

Wish that studio were about two hours closer.

A: Yes and no. The long-term one of continuing to improve won't change, but smaller ones definitely have. Sometimes we don't have goals until it's been made known to us that a goal is actually possible to reach. If I think something's really, truly off-limits, I won't waste my time. If I think I have a shot at it, I'll give it a try, though.

Yes, my goals have changed. I was originally only interested in learning enough to get by dancing socially. Now I really want to improve more generally as a dancer. I also went from learning only certain American Rhythm dances to being interested in learning many different styles. I like having a couple medium term goals and a lot of short term goals (things I think I can achieve in 2-3 months), so I am constantly updating the short, and even medium, term goals as I meet them.

Are you facing a situation where you are not sure that a change of your dance goals is a normal thing?

I know it is a normal thing…who said though that I am normalo_O

My dance goals keep changing and they always have since the very first year I started dancing. At the moment, I realized I am unable to reach a dance goal and had to let it go and adjust it to reality. It’s always a struggle and I feel lost but I am always getting there in the end. What is DF for, anyway? To make this journey with company and not alone. Isn’t it so, Egorich? I, for one, have realized that the means, age and physical abilities do not allow me to become anything but a social dancer but was determined to be treating myself as if I was a competitive dancer in every aspect of my life apart from the competition. My dance goal now changed. Due to attenuating circumstances I will refrain myself from dreaming anything but social dancing…So, my new dance goal is to be a social dancer (until it changes again...)

I've blown past all my goals in a ridiculously short amount of time... I'm now trying to decide what I want, so that I can move on to setting some new ones.

Currently taking the time to really think and reflect, with no goal on the table that is further out than my next comp... and even those ones are soft.

I keep separate short, medium and long term goals. The short term ones are pretty much constantly evolving and generally cover time periods of a year or less. The medium term ones generally fall in the 3-5 year range. They do change, but much more slowly. Meeting this is a Big Deal for me. With Nationals next week (eep!) and with my expecting a partner change soon-ish, both of these are going to be due for some fairly serious revision not all that far in the future.

Long-term goals are 5+ years out, with an emphasis on the "plus" for some of them. These don't really change.
