Does dancing produce insomnia?

Does dancing produce (create--can't think of the word I need) insomnia? I can't sleep lately.
As soon as my head hits the pillow, all I can think about are my dance lessons and the upcoming competition (Heart of America). It's only my second time competing; the last time was three years ago at the same competition--I competed pro/am and with my amateur partner.
This time around, I have a different (awesome!) teacher and am competing pro/am, three styles--rhythm, smooth and Latin.
I remember not being able to sleep in the first year of dancing, but this has gotten noticeably worse lately.
Help! Any advice welcome!
:headwall:

my guess: it's not dancing, it's excitement. and yes, dancing (especially competing) can be véry exciting. And dancing can produce a lot of adrenaline too...
When i come home from dancing, i need at least 1 hour to 'cool down'. Brew some tea, check df
mayby the guys at 'insomniacs 'r us' can give you some more tips?

thanks

Thanks, I'll try the insomniacs group--that will give me something to do at least when I can't sleep!

It's especially noticeable the night before a competition!!!

OMG! You are so right, Vince. This happens to me all the time. Either I fall asleep three hours before I am to dance in the morning, or I mysteriously wake up at 3:00 a.m. and go over all my patterns in my sleep. It's annoying because I'm one of those people that just doesn't function well on less than 7 hours of continuous sleep.

If anyone has a cure, let me know (short of popping pills, anyway).

It's what is commonly known as adrenaline. I get that way from any big, fun-filled night, whether it be a night of dancing, a cool concert, a wild party or even band practice! Gotta down some valerian root to get a good night's sleep if I have to get up & work the next day...

My sister-in-law just recommended that to me, Cocodrilo. I'll go buy some tomorrow at a health food store. She also said "Ambien" is good, but a prescription is required (she's a nurse). She said you don't get a hangover from it.

Ambien has helped me through some tough sleepless battles. It knocks you out completely. Probably good as a last resort or when you have had several sleepless nights in a row.

Whenever I have a good night dancing I also need a while to calm down. Comes with the territory, I guess.

I don't like pharmaceuticals. They have side effects(the "hangover") and can be addicting. Valerian doesn't "knock you out" but it does relax you enough to get a deep, uninterrupted sleep. Sometimes it leaves me a tad groggy in the morning, but that's nothing a good cuppa can't cure!

Yea, I agree. You may get to sleep, but will feel groggy and istless in the AM - something you don't need if you have to compete real early.

Valerian root and Melatonin will work . . . chamomile tea helps . . . one beer helps . . . sex works . . .

Oh hell, try all the above before you go to sleep! It's all safe!

I agree, Mamboqueen--sex will not put me to sleep. Tylenol PM worked last night, but I don't want to do that the night before my Rhythm heats--I know I'll be starting around 8am--ugh!
