Does posting on DF confer valuable skills?

If your boss ever accuses you of wasting too much time on the internet, just say that the typing skills you acquire here allow you to be more efficient at cranking out those documents and papers....

Give it a try, we DF addicts have to be some of the fastest typers out there!

Web boards encourage developing time management skills.

Usenet encourages developing anger management skills

It also encourages "summarising" and "grasping the key issues quickly" skills

Do I also need diplomacy and restraint in thinking

Nah, Pacion I think you're pretty diplomatic. :)

What's Usenet? <Sorry, for a self-proclaimed internet addict I must make a poor showing....  >

I think that usenet was before the internet? perhaps? Some old fashioned mode of communication.... before my time.....? maybe still used and not popular.

I sure hope that df does something with all the time I put into it!

Wikipedia entry. Basically Usenet can be thought of as a distributed bulletin board system. It's been around for 25 years and has thousands of newsgroups on every topic under the sun; these days there are also web interfaces to Usenet, particularly Google groups.

Still not found a use for them myself. No wonder. If I can barely get around df, when will I ever get a chance for anything else?

Actually, IMing did wonders for my typing speed. Y'know, talking to three people at once while writing the ten page honors credit paper the night before it's due...yah. Turned out my typing speed is around 65wpm and it landed me a couple of temp secretarial jobs a few summers back. So I DID get a use out of my online time wasting!

I just took that test and came up with 82 WPM with 93% accuracy . . .

Maybe I should look into secretarial summer jobs?

Uhh... so does DF. I fail at it miserably, of course. But I've had my fair share of anger to manage in my DF travels ... and then some.

I wonder how much average typing speed has increased in the last 15 years due to everyone's internet use. I know accuracy has gone down. In the good old days, mistakes were painful to correct -- think four carbon copies -- so we all had to be slower and much more careful.
Brings back memories of typing class and the nuns covering the keys so we couldn't peek.

I am not sure but I used to be a Prodigy chat-room addict back when you paid like $30 per month for ten hours or something. It made my typing so fast, it's almost embarassing....
