Does your partner smell? Do your favourite scents/perfumes help inspire your dancing?

It's midweek and I thought I'd mix it up with a scentsational new thread. :P

My dance partner has a new perfume (Valentina) that is just magical. It lingers in the space between us like an invitation, a flirtation, a provocation, depending on which notes you get. The connection feels more sensual, the dancing, more together. It just struck me how much the sense of smell adds to the connection between partners.

I read the cologne thread and, baby-powder/pot roast aside, I know it's just another compatibility/personal preference thing. I just wondered if anyone else has felt inspired in a similar way, even by their own scent. It's subjective, but for example: my "fresh" scent seems to energise me, Burberry makes the dancing seem more elegant, and a new one I tried (smells like coffee and praline) seemed to accentuate the masculinity of the movement. Just thought I'd see if anyone was up for an abstract discussion :D

Whenever I smell stuff I like, I enjoy it, and it all ends there. It doesn't translate to any inspiration of any sort.

Are you talking of social dancing, training, performing or of competing, or what?

For me it would be performing/competing, carried through from training. I guess it translates to a nice sense of familarity for me, and it adds an extra dimension for me. :-P

I like a man who smells good...I appreciate a dab of a nice cologne on a man...that being said, I would never expect it from my professional...and it has probably happened exactly once, and even though I appreciated it greatly, I am absolutely certain that it had nothing to do with me :)

as to myself: I will wear perfume when I have it handy and that is most of the time...I love it, I try not to offend with it...given that I dance with a man who is not shy about letting me know what does bother him, I would assume that if my perfume did, he would say it

No scent please! So many of us are allergic! I can't tell you how many times I have run off when overwhelming perfumes waff by... either that or suffer for hours later.

Strongly prefer no perfume, and I don't wear cologne due to allergies/asthma. That being said, a pleasant mix of deodorant / hair product scents is a plus (especially in samba rolls, when my face is right next to my partner's hair).

We have a guy at the studio who smells like the fragrance section of Ulta. Sure, he has nice stuff, but it's just everywhere and gives me a headache.

I do love Uomo, and I wish women who wore Light Blue understood how powerful and heavy that stuff is.

I seem to be able to tolerate men's cologne much better than women's perfume. Most (as in 95% I'd say) perfumes give me the worse headache. I've not noticed the same with men's cologne. A light, faint scent is ok, but if you are dancing with other people, I think it is polite to go easy.

Women's perfume inevitably has some kind of pheromone or musk factor that really closes down my pipes. Men's cologne seems to have veered away from that in part over the past few years- at least the good stuff- so that the citrus/pine stuff is far more tolerable.
