You still have to practice alone
We got the terms "lead" and "follow" but the truth is it's really 50/50
Terms are just terms
You have to bring your 100% on the table to make your 50% contribution
And the way to make sure you bring your 100% in is by practicing alone as well
Maybe use a ratio of hours like :
For every 1 hour of dancing with partner, you should spend 1.5 hours practicing alone
So it's 1:1.5
I guess that makes sense
Because you'll learn your traffic control and if you can keep frame with the air, which will train you to get used to staying in frame alone, you won't be pulling your partner down or pushing your partner away
Does that make sense?
I practice my footwork alone, a lot, hours
My frame too
Like I'm dancing with an imaginary partner
But that's what gets my body used to it
And that's how serious I am
Plus if you're serious about doing it really well with your partner, you have to listen
For example, I listen to my teacher and I absorb
And whatever she says, I apply
Because I'm the lead and she's the follow
And she tells me how to lead her well
And since I'm serious about everything
I make sure I do it right
