Dollar Strength

The dollar has quietly gained strength over the last few months and is now back to levels seen around 04-05 versus the pound, euro, and other major currencies. Now would be a great time to convert some dollars to euros and go overseas!

With that being said, I'm still bearish toward the dollar in the coming months, and I'm long the euro particularly.

hope dollar keeps strong, hope the prices of visiting coaches won't be as crazy anymore; last time our coach said crazy visiting coach prices mainly due to weak dollars.

I read somewhere that Gisele Bundchen insists on only getting paid in euro due to the weak dollar. Harsh!

But I agree with you fully Josh, the dollar is a lot stronger than people think it is right now. I can't tell you how many times I overheard advisors at the financial firm I worked at trying to explain to frazzled clients that the dollar is worth more now than it was 2-3 years ago, and the economy is actually in the "upswing" phase and is improving. But with all the negative press about government bail-outs and bad days on Wall Street, no wonder people are so scared...and more likely to keep money under their mattress than in a bank account or 401k!

if the bailout eventually passes, that dollar will eventually be destroyed. so... convert now. :)

the market seems to be handling the failure of the bailout plan's insurrection okay today. i hope this trend continues until thursday (and further), and gives no extra incentive to the congress to change their minds.

so nice to hear that. i wish for same. certainly, they will be under massive pressure this week to turn that vote around.

honestly, i'm quite happy that they're in heavy contemplation over spending such a large amount of our tax dollars. can't say the same for myself when I'm in the mall, but thankfully the numbers are a bit smaller ;)

actually, i think they're being given as minimum amount of contemplation as possible -- there is great furor over this in congress. those that are against pushing the bill thru without being given time to read it, or who are against it for other reasons, are not being given a voice and are reporting being kicked out of meetings, even labeled unpatriotic. great drama is surrounding this bailout, as it would re-org our country's financial structure as perhaps never before in history. it's of great political import, not just about the numbers.

history waits to see how the forces will prevail...

well, funny, if you listened to many, the sky was supposed to fall yesterday and it didn't. I'm not for this bailout at all, but if it's going to happen, I'd like to know that a lot of *thought* and discussion was put into it.

agree with samina. this is one of those times when we will all rediscover whether the USA is still capable of holding on to its capitalist tenets and doing right by the spirit of the principles that made this country what it is, or whether this week is the undoubted dawn of a new era of 'social justice'.

far worse than "social justice", IMO...fascism involves the marrying of government with commerce, and the terms of the bailout would join the two. that's not called out in the mainstream news. but there are voices crying out that high crimes are being committed.

history is being made, either way.
