Double neck drops?

Tonight I saw something quite strange on the Salsa floor...a guy did a double neck drop with a lady...once on the left, then on the right! He even did it on time...but man...I couldn't believe my eyes! I know that the two dancers were acquainted somewhat...but I so wanted to get up and give him a neck drop and just let him fall! :shock:

It still amazes me just how rough some guys are on the floor...and the ladies put up with it! I've seen the same guy do fancy show off stuff and leave a lady just standing there watching him...I guess some folks don't get the "partner" aspect of partner dancing. :?

What's a neck drop?

Is it like an aerial where the girls is thrown over the guy, coming down head first and caught between the guys legs (as by some done in Lindy) or is it a more simple lowering the girl to the floor while only supporting her neck?

Or something else entirely? :?: :?:

People have the tendency of showing off... it's a bad idea, if you ask me... one might get seriously injured on a crowded dance floor...
You will not catch me doing this fancy acrobatics stuff... it's a no-no for me. If I competed I'd understand why doing it... but if I am dancing for my pleasure... what's the point of jumping and flying all around?
Ladies put up with such behaviour... ask those who do... I have no idea why...

What you're describing is typically called a waterfall. A neck drop starts out more like a revers neck roll but then develops into a dip with the woman facing upward and the man's hand supporting her from the back of her neck.* Not the best description, I know, but I hope it gives you at least the start of a visual.


* This is actually something of a misnomer and a misunderstanding among those without real training in such things. The man's supporting hand should actually end up a bit lower than the woman's neck and be further down towards the base of her neck and between her shoulder blades.

Thanks, I know what it is now. I've seen a couple of variations of it.

Not something you should do on the social floor unless you know you've got a lot of floor. You don't want anyone bumping into you while doing that, especially not bumping into the girls head.

Follow up question (hijcaking the thread): Do you have jams in Salsa too? The stuff where everyone forms a big circle while different couples enters the middle, showing off to the cheering crowd?

I saw this performance in Osaka where each guy had a girl on each side, and did neck drops with both of them, simultaneously. This one guy, however, MISSED catching one of the girls(ker-PLOP)- boy did that look painful, not to mention embarrassing! She had this :evil: sneer on her face from then on...Poor thing...

P.S. I would NEVER trust someone enough to let them try something like that on me. Being paralyzed for life isn't so appealing to me! :shock:
