Dubbing music in videos

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any insight why WDSF dubbed music over the dancing in the youtube video for the European Championships?


The 'dubbing' is out of sync at times with the dancers, not phrased with the dancers and makes them almost look foolish. I am just wondering if this was done on purpose and if so what was the point? Was the live stream the same?

They probably didn't have the rights to some of the music to post on YouTube and you tube pulled the video.
So in order to post it, they had to sub with general domain music

Same thing happened with ASN's stream of Millennium -- all the more annoying because the music director specifically chose music that could be cleared, and then ASN dubbed it all anyway instead of getting the rights. INCLUDING the music for the Perzhus' and Riccardo/Yulia's show dances -- such a bad mismatch!

I guess what I am wondering is whether it is better to pay for the rights, or to not post the video at all at that point....dubbing music just doesn't seem to work and doesn't bring credit to the couples dancing.

The mismatch for me was so abrasive that I couldn't finish watching even the first episode -- there are plenty of people out there, though, that didn't even notice.

Sometimes when I run across this, if I want to watch the couples anyway, I just mute the sound and watch them dance. Not ideal, but nicer than watching them dance completely out of sync with the music track.

I guess they were interested in monetizing the video, since songs in this list can be uploaded to YouTube without getting a copyright strike (just make sure to check each individual song's status, they typically vary by country). The catch is that the vast majority of cleared songs will require the video to have ads, and those ads will be paid to the music publisher, not the uploader.

If you could find out what the original music was, you could re-dub!
