DWTS Poland

Have you guys checked out the Polish version of DWTS? IMO their celebs dance circles around those on the US version. I do not think any celeb with the exception of Mario can come anywhere close to what I've seen on the Polish show. Here's a link to the Polish DWTS website:

http://tanieczgwiazdami.onet.pl/12403,pary_4edycja.html

It's in polish so it could be hard to navigate for English speakers. Click on the "down arrow" beneath "ZOBACZ FILMY", select the dance you want to see and then click "pary numer". To watch another couple, click on one of the name pairs to the right which are numbered using roman numerals. Enjoy! :)

i've seen clips from other countries' versions and had the same reaction - the dancing was way way way way way better. there was a clip from teh netherlands version of Julie Fryer and celeb doing a jive that absolutely blew me away.

I posted something a while ago about this but I don't think anyone read it...the Polish DWTS is awesome! I really like watching Aneta. Does anyone know how many seasons its been running? My trainer grew up dancing in the same club as the judge Piotr Galinski.

I know. That was the Dutch version. Julie and Jim won it too.

I especially enjoyed watching Julie Fryer because I haven't seen her dance except on the superstars video where she had already retired - other than that, she is mostly 'legend' to me. It's great to see her in action. I love the way she moves.

It might not be nice to put it this way, but another reason I really like watching her because she seems so "non ballroom queen" in her appearance -currently, anyway. Like, short natural hair, imperfect teeth, non-beauty queen face - I can identify, in other words. Whereas when I watch a Beata or a Karina or Yulia, they are just so otherworldly beautiful, it's like they're not even real.

There's was actress, Kasia Cichopek on the second season who was simply amazing. Her dancing simply blew me away. For brief periods, it was a little hard to see who the pro and who the celeb was. I have linked her tango below:

Now why don't we have such great dancing on the US version? After all we have amazing pros like Louis and Karina. Perhaps the DWTS versions in other countries try to get celebs with talent rather than celebs who are just there for the ratings.

Thank you for posting that, I really liked it! :DI liked that the music was actually appropriate for tango (never thought I'd hear a tango version of Roxanne but it worked :D) and I liked that they actually danced for longer than a minute 30 (which is the length for our version of DwtS and for So You Think You Can Dance).

I think here in the US they recruit B or C list stars or former A-listers who are no longer in the spotlight and who could use more attention. Or in the case of Monique and Willa, people who are still relatively unknown and needing to get their name and face out there. Talent doesn't seem to the issue when selecting celebrities and some celebrities pass on the chance to be on the show as they'd rather focus on maintaining their livelihood. Perhaps with the foreign editions they actually seek out celebrities with more natural dance talent or prior dance background and experience?

Thanks!

Raises some thoughts:

What if this were posted on the other (non-DF) DWTS forums we hear of - would the general public take notice? Or has this happened already?

If the current US DTWS were on the same floor as non-US DWTS, what would be the impression? quality, showmanship, entertainment, endearment, emotion?

This shows how good Standard can look and be a riveting performance; although at this level, the pro lead might have a greater advantage to be able to pull it off every week.

The camera work and lighting is SO much better in the tango clip than on the US show! It helps convey the feeling of the dance so well that any little slips become a lot less apparent.

There was a post on another website claiming Aneta was in Playboy (Polish edition). It was quickly deleted. I saw the pics. Yowzaaaa !

It is running fourth season right now.
Piotr Galinski has his own studio in Cracow or Wroclaw (I am not sure right now) and he is an amazing teacher. If you are ever in Poland, try to get a lesson or two with him.

As for Aneta, yes, she was in Playboy and the only reason why it was a big thing was because by the end of the program, she was dating her dance partner in DWTS. They were kind of cute...
Now his twin brother is dancing in the new season :)

Oh, and why is Polish edition of DWTS better then american one?
I think it's because both the studios where the celebs are training have a very Russian/Polish mentality - you either do things very well, or not at all.
I was taking some lessons at one of the studios that participate in DWTS but the only time slots they had free were between 5 and 9 am. The rest was booked by the celebs... they were dancing even up to 6 hours a day!
And once I saw Aneta and her partner practicing in one of the parks in Warsaw...

None of the celebs have previous dance experience (except for Ola Kwasniewska who's had some basic waltz before)

I had not thought of the Russian/Polish mentality of excellence. That's a very good point and explans why a large number of top ballroom dancers in the US are Russian
