DWTS: The Next Pro

Ooooo! I hadn’t heard about this new show!

I’ll definitely check it out on Disney+ later this month (family visit this week/weekend & lots going on at work, so I have less free time than I’d like).

No spoilers please if anyone else is watching the show & wants to comment in this thread!

I had to chuckle when I saw who the host is.

Btw, how many people knew, with 100% certainty, that he would be the winner last season as soon as they announced the cast? Surely I wasn’t the only one???
 
Did not know about this show. One of these contestants has just begun her pro Smooth career with a huge wallop, winning Rising Star and even placing in Open Pro. How is she going to do both?
 
The show isn’t live and was already filmed, I believe. For the smooth pro, I think filming was why she and her partner skipped amateur nationals this year. Not sure what will happen if it turns out she won the show.

best guess: she has gone pro, very successfully, and that is likely where she'll be.

She's a lovely person; they are a lovely couple; both of them a joy to watch and a pleasure to be around. Met them last year when they were still "ballroom kids" at a dance camp.
 
For a reality dance show, it had a nice amount of dancing. And the judging/commentary was mostly brief but basically on point (this one needs better technique, that one had great showmanship, that one had technique so precise that they need a bit more showmanship, etc). Maybe because they are judging dancers/pros instead of judging celebrities trying to learn to dance.

A nice short series to watch. And then presumably for the next season of DWTS, we'll get to watch whoever is chosen as the pro and see how they do. I'm kind of surprised they are only picking one pro, though (per the promos). I would have thought it might make sense to pick one follower and one leader from the group.

I realize that the first episode was about technique/skills. I was disappointed, but not surprised, that it was solely about Latin technique/skills. And I was disappointed that partnering/connection skills were almost completely absent. (Ok, ok, there were one or two pairs that used a connection for an American Spin in Jive, and an assist for a backflip – but really, the number of times that connection skills that were used could be counted on the fingers of one hand.) It was really just side-by-side and solo dancing. Why did they bother to put them in pairs?

As I watched, I asked myself, “as a Pro-Am student which one would I pay money to, to take a lesson from?”. So far, I’m keeping my checkbook closed.

Just as well that there are a few more weeks for me to be persuaded.
 
I think they were in pairs so the judges could see technique and presentation side by side. And probably to make it more interesting for the audience than watching just one dancer at a time all night. I was also surprised no partnering for night 1.

I'm curious what the next challenges will be. I assume there will be ballroom challenges soon. (Or at least I hope so!)

I thought they posted at the time that she had a concussion… could be wrong though.

Yes, indeed. She and her partner have gone Pro. (I've been following them for a couple of years now.) They placed 1st as amateurs at Blackpool in the inaugural smooth event this year - and seem to have made the transition to Pro. I believe Denver was their first pro debut competition.

Yes, I'm also watching the show. Though, I don't need the house drama. Perhaps, including the house drama gives it a different feel from the flagship show. I don't know... but I'm in for the ride cause it's dancing and I'm not doing as much right now, so live vicariously.
