At least this one does not seem as devastating as that big one that hit Kobe and Osaka so many years ago? Quakes are no fun... especially when you get woken up by one at night .

Scotland may not be a paradise, but at least it's pretty much quake-free.

Really? I was reading an article in the local paper yesterday about how here in America we think of quakes as a california thing, but their are fault lines all over and possibilities of quakes in places such as Boston! A nice quake in Boston and almost everyone will be a goner as most of the city is built on fill!! :( Same may be true for Scotland...

The Kansai earthquake back in '95 left death(5000 plus) & destruction(houses, factories, apt. complexes, highways) and Japan is extrememly prone to earthquakes as it is on several faultlines and has numerous volcanoes. We had another one last night at MIDNIGHT which was the oddest earthquake I experienced. It was just bouncing, not the usual jolty earthquake shakes, and lasted quite a long time. I just got up(6:40am) so I'll see what the news says.

Yet another quake, this morning at 8:30! Now, we're in the midst of getting blasted by typhoons #18, which seems to be right over my house about now!
All of my appointments were cancelled today/tonight so my highlight of the day was 2 hours of salsa practice! Hope my windows don't get blown in!

Actually we do get tremours surprisingly regularly in Scotland, though they are not violent earth shakers like those you get in Japan or California, and those tiny tame ones make headline news here because we are so unused to them.

Loch Ness lies along a fault line, and there is even a theory that Loch Ness Monster is actually bubbles coming up from the bottom of the loch after a tremor.

Gosh, I hope you're okay Coco. I was in Guam years back and we used to get zapped with them. Earthquakes and typhoons are no fun. :(

Cocodrilo,

I hope you're okay! From Florida & the Caribbean with Hurricanes and now you in Japan with a Earthquake..WOW! I realize how lucky I am here in South Texas and we always complain how hot it is during the summer.

My thoughts & prayers are with you. God bless!!

The thing finally went up to Hokkaido, leaving a path of death & devastation. Hundreds nationwide were dealing with water int ehhouse(AND MUD!) and several boats were storm tossed and their occupants left missing. Few deaths in this area. Mostly geniuses who went up on the roof to check their TV antennas mid-storm or went to the harbor to watch the big, scary waves.
