Anyone planning on going to this comp?

LOCATION: Renaissance Waterfront Hotel
Boston, MA
Hotel rooms are currently $139/night.

DATES: January 22-24, 2010.

SHOW: Domenico Soale & Gioia Ceresoli.

(NOTE: This is both a change of date and venue from last year.)

I am thinking seriously about this one. I went last year and had a great time!

One of the things I liked was that the pro-am latin starts after lunch, and there were decent sized fields in the scholarships. Works for me!

I also like that this comp has a 10-dance competition, because I enjoy watching my teacher and his partner compete in that event.

I am slightly bummed that it moved to the weekend right after MAC, as I prefer to spread out my dance fun a little bit more. Also, I loved the hotel last year (beautiful ballroom and great location), so part of me is sad to see the comp move...but I'm sure this one will be very nice as well!

I will not. I will probably go to the one in CT in January. And, it will be my debut......Spoke to my teacher and he is already planning it..... Whined him if I am not ready, but he is very confident...... Don't know how.....

This comp is my goal comp for my new routines...I have a voucher for $200 from last year so would hate to see it go to waste.

I too thought it was a nicely run competition in a beautiful venue - am sure they'll do an equally good job in the new location. Wish it were still February to give me an extra month, but you got to bite the bullet sometime.

I'll probably be there. We went last year and enjoyed it. The venue was very nice last year and I'm sure the new hotel will be nice as well.

Was there much of an Am-Am contingency there?

There was a conflict with the B.U. comp (I think it was B.U.) last year. Not so, this year, AFAIK.

I seem to recall that syllabus levels had sparse entries, with more couples contesting rising star/champ levels. A few people did both comps, IIRC.

Hmm...don't remember what the deal was for International, as I don't compete them.

Champ Amatuer American events were decent. They were straight finals in both cases (I think it was 5 or 6 couples in each style), but that's pretty common at most places.

Two years ago I danced syllabus American events (or maybe it was a Pre-Champ level) and those events were in the afternoon and not very well attended.

Was there much of an Am-Am contingency there?

-Amateur Championship Latin started from a 10-couple semi-final.
-Amateur syllabus latin had 1-2 couples in each age division and level.

-Amateur Championship Standard started from 8 couples, including the national champions in this style.
-Amateur syllabus standard had from 1-4 couples in each of the various age and ability levels.

-Amateur Championship Smooth had a 6 couple final.
-Amateur syllabus smooth had 1-3 couples in each age division and level.

-Amateur Championship Rhythm had a 5 couple final.
-Amateur syllabus rhythm had 1-2 couples in each age division and level.

The kids syllabus divisions were somewhat better attended.

Registration deadline for this one is coming up! (December 15th.)

I'm trying to figure out which events I would like to enter. One thing that is good, but a bit comical to me: the organizers have just added back in a silver scholarship. (They originally published their forms with just bronze and gold scholarships.) It is listed as "new," and is a 3-dance scholarship. I danced in this same scholarship last year, and it was a 4-dance event then!

This looks like it is going to be pretty affordable.

If I just do 5 single dances and 1 scholarship, my entries are going to be cheap: 35 x 5 single dances = 175, 85 x 1 scholarship = 85, total = 260, MINUS 100 ESDSC gift certificate from last year's scholarship = 160.

Plane fares are pretty darn good too, as Southwest and AirTran compete on this route. I've seen as low as $39/each way on Southwest...though I'd probably prefer to go mid-day for more like $70/each way.

I notice that the $139/night hotel rate seems to be in effect through 12/31.

Anyone else going to join in the fun?

Definitely in...working out which events yesterday and registering this week. Glad to know there will be another familiar face!

DP is filling out our registration...he just realized last night how soon the deadline is. We'll be there dancing opem amatuer smooth...I think it's on Friday night. We both live near the city...so no flights and hotel for us!

Bumping this to find out if anyone knows when they'll be posting heat lists? I've looked at the schedule, and have an idea of when my friends will be dancing, but have to make a decision as to which day I'll go and watch (and cheer) -- rhythm and standard on Friday, or smooth & Latin on Saturday. Decisions, decisions. Problem is, I want to watch it all, but particularly standard (Friday afternoon) and smooth (Saturday morning), but doubt I can manage to spend an overnight.

My guess is not until the week of, at best.

I think you forgot to mention how much you want to see the LATIN, since I have reason to believe CCM, njdancegirl, and mamboqueen will be in it!

OK, thanks for the nudge;). Please note that afaik that I do not (yet) have a show scheduled for this weekend -- am hoping to get to watch y'all!

<pause to check calendar>

Merde alors. Nevermind. I *do* have a show. I had the wrong dates in my head!
Oh, well, I'll get to see you dance sometime.
