ECS Showcase Suggestions

Hi all,

I'm looking to do better in ECS, and one of the ways I tend to learn a particular style of dance is by doing a showcase number to it. (Last two showcases have been Smooth Foxtrot and VW.) I like performing and telling a story through a showcase dance (and dressing up - last two dances involved a tux + ascot and 18th-century costuming before that). But I just don't know ECS dances all that well. Does anyone have ideas on ECS songs that are particularly good for telling a "story"? I tend to gravitate towards Broadway/Disney songs, as duets are easy to work with (or the song is already associated with a well known story).

I was thinking of doing Sherry from the Jersey Boys soundtrack (the original is too slow, and even the song from the musical is a smidge too slow). Dress up in 1960s clothes, with a red Jersey-Boys-like tux and a swinging serenade as if I'm asking my partner to go out for a fun night on the town ("We'll dance the night away...").

I was also thinking "You're Welcome" from the Moana soundtrack.

But I feel like there are other great songs out there, and my knowledge of ECS songs (and how to pair them with stories) is not that great. Any other ideas/thoughts?

Thank you!

Jimmy buffet does some cute ones. I did a song called Fins, it tells a story. We started with "Cincinnati" shirts and pants then pulled them off mid song to reveal our tropical outfits. (hawaiian shirts and shorts) This makes sense after you listen to the words. It is a good ECS.

If you like (or don't mind) props you are welcome to steal this idea. I can teach you how to make the hat. We interpreted the song as Foxtrot, but it could certainly go more ECS. Also, the songs been covered a 100 times. There might be a version that is faster, but also we slowed it down about 8 % or so.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! Collecting a bunch of ideas before taking them to my partner.

Also, what do folks think about Mamma Mia?
