There is a great, IMO  , website:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/
If you receive an email and the content of it makes you want to go :nope: do Google it or check it out on Urban Legends. This could save a lot of time and help reduce the email hoaxes flying round. Sadly, an example of one that has been flying around London/the UK is partially false.
From a quick search on the internet, it appears that if you DO dial 112 from your mobile anywhere in Europe, it does go though to the emergency services, BUT, in London's case, it does not work in the underground system because there is no mobile phone signal in the underground system that is, well, underground... (part of the system is overland and therefore it will of course work then - you can make/receive calls as per normal, overland, anyway)

If you travel to work on the tube please note the following information:
If your mobile phone has no signal (so even if you were in a tunnel) if you dial 112 it diverts to a satellite signal and puts you through to the 999 call centre.
ALL phone companies have signed up and as it is a satellite service it also gives them a trace to you if you don't know where you are.

1-1-2 is the single emergency telephone number for the European Union
