um, I like the way eminem gets creative with the language itself. It's like jazz, only with English instead of a sax.
However, by his age people should really get a lot less self-centered, in my opinion. I mean, it's one thing to think of nothing but yourself when you're 15, but at 30? Come on!

Yep. I like the way eminem plays with syncopations. Very nice. And his rap style has an almost melodic feel to it, even when he's not singing. He also has a pretty nice feel for irony and humor, if you listen to his lyrics. Now if he'd just stop cursing so much, he'd be all right by me. (I think the self-centeredness may be as much rap culture bravado as anything else. He gives a fairly intelligent interview, I think.) And of course, all the controversy is just to sell CD's, IMO. You can't blame the man.

I thought this was the SWING discussion boards?

Even if it wasn't my poll answer = yuck & yuck

Yes, I'm not sure I see a relationship here either. We could move it to General Dance Discussion or even Dancer's Annonymous. Has the word dance been used in this thread yet? I am not too in with the state of Hip Hop as it pertains to dancers, but do Hip Hop dancers use Eminem songs or 50 Cent songs very often?

Well, Eminem songs are mostly about the lyrics, but has pretty decent beats. However, I feel that the 50 Cent beats are much more superior, but the lyrics such as P.I.M.P. is pretty C.R.A.P.

Good point. Fifty Cent wouldn't bother me if he'd just enunciate. I can't tell what he's saying a lot of the time. Eminem? No problem. 8)

50cent ha loose change, 1 hit in the club .. cool to dance to, but the lyrics stink theres not a women in the wolrd who's a lady that would agree with those lyrics and the same for e-m&m he"s more talented as far as hit songs and rapping but all that cussing etc its horrible,i get the clean versions of a couple of his hit songs, all his angry stuff at his age and the money he has is nonsense and im being nice.i dont like or agree with the negative rap lyrics and songs that really are harmfull to people of course in america we have a right to free speech, but i wish people would not endorse these guys- i mean if they kept it clean with some of the same beats thats cool. there not singers at all and rapping started in france a long time ago and other parts of the world, shoot danny kaye did a rap number in the 1950 or 60"s if anyone ever saw him in the movie that eludes me at this time u would know what i mean.

Unless I'm mistaken, quite a few of Eminem's lyrics are autobiographical, and, if you listen, he does have quite a bit (at least in his life's history) to be angry about. That said, I agree that the cursing's gotta go.

Fifty Cent had that one crossover hit that I know about, yes.

And I suspect there're a few who'd disagree about the origins of rap, but then, we're here to talk about dance, or at least dance music, right? 8)

Sorry, but I just can't dance to people caterwauling about how insignificant they think women are, how cool it is to pack guns and who don't care about the English language...(This does not mean I dislike ALL rap, mind you! There is some decent stuff out there. Anyone know "Dragon Ash" from Japan? Kim Gun Mo from Korea? Those guys ROCK!)

I love the hip hop dancing without the raunchy moves in it.

Very cool stuff that takes skill.
(Usher, Ciara) Have you seen the videos? Awesome moves.

I really detest the rap with the:
thumbdn_125.gif
lyrics with sexually content degrading women
thumbdn_125.gif
bragging about sexual exploits

Wish they'd pull up their pants and wear shirts their size. Don't like the sloppy look.

Some of the women keep the lyrics cleaner but that's getting scarce too.
There IS some positive hip hop music out there though. I like Jennifer Lopez's clean cut, good danceable music. Can't think of any others right now.

Now there's something called Holy Hip Hop...clean cut too.

Recently, I downloaded "Lean Back the instrumental version" off of Kazaa.
Man Oh Man is that Slamin'.
I have to try and find a mixer that takes out the lyrics and leaves the instrumental itself intact.

I think the music without the lyrics is Slamin' to dance to.
