okay, I'll admit it...I am not an engineer...I have not been following the techno discussions that have been puzzling out how to do what on this new DF...so can any of you who have done all of the hard work, clue the blonde liberal arts major in on how to use the emoticons around here??????

I know for the following three, I just type:
colon, close parenthesis :)
semicolon, close parenthesis ;)
colon, open parenthesis :(

I didn't figure out how to get it for the rest. Maybe someone can help us out?

I got
by typing colon, banana, colon

by typing colon, rolleyes, colon

I'm sure there's an easier way. I cheat by looking at the message typed by others, where you know what to type to get them.

when answering a post, go 'advanced'
and there they are! to the right.. you can also change fonts or colour and size

You also have to go to your user preferences and select anything but basic.

User CP, Edit Options, Misc Options, then select something other than basic.

thank you:kissme: :kissme:

I've been typing my emoticons the old fashioned way for quite a while -- it's a long story involving my old, dying computer. Finding the extra emoticons page was a hassle, so I just memorized the English words and syntax to type them longhand. It was quicker. *shrug*

Yep. The new settings work better than longhand, I'm sure. But I have a two-year ingrained habit. Eh. Oh well. *shrug*

okay, and while we are at it...I tried to go to calendar and put my birthday in ...but I couldnt figure that out either....I entered a bunch of stuff...but my name and the cute little cake emblem and my b-day didn't appear on the calender....can someone tell me how to do that or better yet, do it for me(smiles looking pathetic)? september 1st btw

Go to the User CP button (it's a button enclosed in the rectangular banner near the top of your screen. User CP is on the far left. CP stands for Control panel, btw.)

When you click on User CP, you'll get a screen where you can personalize all sorts of things in your DF interface. On the left of that screen, near the top, is a button to "Edit Profile." Click on that button. Inside your profile is where you add in birthdate information, if you want. HTH.
