Errors this afternoon

What can I say? It's no picnic!
...but I do apologize. I'm starting to think it would be worth changing hosts. It would probably mean we would lose a day and I would spend about 5-6 hours getting it setup on a new server. I'm sure I could pay someone to help me. It would probably cost me $60 to get someone to move everything over for me. Of course, there is still no guarantee that is the solution (but I'm not sure what else to try).

Anyways, I'll give it some thought. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I may invite a programmer or two to join me on this thread to offer solutions.

Thanks,
David

Well, WestHost is using a new Virtual Dedicated Server technology. One feature with this technology is the ability to restart the server. Others have told me the type of errors we are seeing may be the result of abrupt stops of the mySQL database.

Tables in the database are not being closed correctly. I have a forum on another server that has been running continuously without a single error for a couple of years (but it is not as busy as this one).

So, in answer to your question, there may be an issue with the hosting of the DB.

And yes, I see that the number of posts says 10,071 when we are nearly at 18,000. I will fix that. I need to restore a newer backup of the "forum table". I'm doing that now.

Definitely not a picnic and all the work you do is very much appreciated!!
Despite the "afternoon of errors" and losing all those cool emoticons, DF is still the place to be!! :D
