European tango

Hi,

I'm searching for information about European tango: music, steps, ...

I hope this is not off-topic, as the forum is about Argentine tango, but I want also know that variant I've heard of, and I cannot find any information about it.

If you mean International Ballroom style tango then try the Ballroom Forum... if there's something else called European tango, well, then I guess I'm about to learn something new too...

Well, there were some German orchestras who played Tango in the Argentine style with bandoneons and all. But, I think what you mean is like the Int. Ballroom Tango that is heavy on drums and accordions. Argentine Tango really has no drums.
Of course, in the thirties, Argentine Tango was extrememly popular in France. Gardel, Canaro, Demare, they all toured in France and made a lot of money there. I have heard different accounts of what the French really danced to it. I think it was probably something like the Apache, which was a dangerous and difficult dance that imitated a street fight. It was really not like Tango. This is what Valentino danced in the movie, not the Argentine Tango. He said so himself.

I just remembered a class where I was taught something like that. I remember the steps: slow, slow, slow, quick, quick. Each slow step is a step forward, and the last quick step means to put your feet together. You move forward or backward.

Little resemblence with Argentinian tango, but I'm interested in it after all.
