Facial attractiveness and dancing

Inspired by the weight&dancing thread:

I mean, in competitive dancing, how much facial attractiveness matter?

I know facial expressions are important, but how about overall prettiness? I notice all high level professionals are very attractive, so it must matter to some extent.
 
You may not have seen all those high level professionals up close. Most of them actually have pretty average facial bone structures. In my opinion that's one of the nice things about dancing; innate facial appearance just doesn't matter that much.

That said, by the time they get to high level, they're extremely good at using makeup to enhance their appearance. They will all look good from across the room. I suspect that's what you're seeing on the competition floor.
 
Yep, Warren is exactly right on this one. Heh, a lot of those pros you wouldn't even recognize out of thier competition makeup. I know, because that happened to me a couple comps ago. :)
 
Have you ever seen a model without make up? They usually look pretty average. However when the makeup is applied they usually look much better than your average person. I think pros know how to apply make up, what to wear, and how to act to make them look attractive.

Me too me too! And not just the professionals! I have been watching a few of the champ latin youth kids dancing, and there were a few couples who caught my eye across a few competitions. Then at another comp where I was volunteering as an assistant registrar, names stuck with me while checking competitors in. I snuck off to see the champ latin kids do their thing, and was comparing the couples against the numbers in the program, and went "... wait... I checked them in!!! How did I not recognise them then??!!!"

I just want to make a comment about facial attractiveness/dancing: In my group dance classes, I noticed that the good-looking men who initially caught my attention (height, face, build, overall "hot-ness" : ) usually turn out to be the least skilled leaders. On the other hand, the least (the LEAST!) attractive men surprisingly turn out to be the much better leaders! After discovering this, I no longer really look at the cute guys in class, I just look forward to dancing with these good leaders, and honestly, even if they are totally unattractive, who cares? They're great! :banana:
 
It's interesting how, after dancing for a while, it's the movement and form that inform our beauty esthetic, more so than the physical beauty.
