fake tan de-tox

Ok.... so I just did the fake tan thing for the first time for a comp. The comp is done and I stopped applying the stuff 3 days ago, and now the relatively even coloring is getting patchy and speckled. Do I have to look like a victim of skin disease until this stuff wears off, or is it acceptable to attempt to scrub vigorously to speed up the process? I am naturally very pale, so the color contrast is rather obvious.
Thanks!

Start out by soaking in a warm tub for about 20 minutes. You want the top layer of your skin to get good and waterlogged. Then scrub with a loofah and a lot of it will come of. The soaking helps a lot.

I heard about the tan remover. Just about to go to the store to see if I can find one of those! I did this for the first time as well. I'll take Laura's advice, in case I don't find the tan remover...

So far...it's not as tan as I'd have liked but it's slowly getting there, so I'll do that for a couple of more times until this weekend's comp :)

I just have to say, after reading the thread about applying sunless tan, I shyed away from trying it ever, just sounded like a lot of hassle. I finally got the courage to buy the Neutrogena spray & tried. It's actually quite painless & didn't make a mess in my bathroom or on my bedsheets! I don't think I'd ever be able to fiddle w/ the foam or lotion thing. Even w/ the spray, I couldn't have done it by myself. I truly admire folks going solo & could apply it evenly to the entire body!

Oh definitely. Mine wears off on the insides of my elbows and behind my knees first, and off the rougher skin like around my ankles last.

Basically tan-in-a-can just dyes the top (dead) layer of your skin, and your tan wears off as your skin cells flake off. The areas of your body that see more friction (insides of elbows, under bra straps) will wear off first.

Oh yeah, first you look like a cheetah in reverse, then like an actual cheetah and then like a human being again.

Scrubbing speeds up the process, but you still end up going through it.

The only one I could find is for hands - if you use it rigth after applying lotion, you won't get orange hands. I like it so far.

Gah. Not only do I have a brown tub now (with a gross pile of what I assume is dead brown skin in the drain  ), I have "scrub marks" on my skin where the fake tan would not come off completely. There are SO many magazine articles and online info on how to get a great fake tan. They don't tell you how freaky you look as it wears off . Silly me, I thought it would gracefully fade away. "Lasts up to a week", they say. Nothing about what happens afterward. What do you do if you have several comps in a row? Would applying even more tanner over the uneven areas make it worse, or better?
