Feather hair pieces

My partner is thinking of wearing a feather hairpiece that matches her dress color for dancing smooth. It has a mesh vail with small dots. Is this ok or a fashion no-no?

Nothing is a no-no unless it looks ridiculous. The whole package from dress to hair accessories to make-up needs to be well studied. Try it! If it looks good, then go for it! If it doesn't bother you in the dancing, go for it! Just make sure the hair piece stays on!

I watched a rather LARGE feather headpiece on a pro at Blackpool 2012. I thought, personally, it was distracting from the beauty of the lines. Although, if you don't try you'll never know. If it is part of the total package and doesn't distract from the neck, posture, lines, etc...then at least try it. Word of warning, try it in rehearsal as well and see if there are any issues first that need to be fixed....like staying on the head, hitting the feathers, etc etc.

As far as Blackpool goes, I've been told "Anything that draws the eye is good" and that you may see some of the most ugly, bizzarre, or flashy costumes--but you SEE them. If you're in a small competition with only a few people, it's one thing, but if you're in a huge herd, anything that draws the eye is helpful.

I think the feathers could work but I'm not a fan of a veil. It's hard to say for sure without seeing it though.

I attempted to post a picture of the item and a picture of her wearing it as well but I am not allowed tp post pictures. Can a Mod help out here?

IMO it looks like something that would be more at home at a Roaring Twenties costume party than a ballroom comp.

I am totally a hat lover, but I suspect this is something people will either love or hate. I noticed some of the top smooth women do wear larger ornaments in their hair, and it can be striking. Personally I would be worried about dancing smooth with something this large in my hair -- sometimes it can be a contact sport. I also think it would look better if the veiling were tacked up on the fascinator, not covering so much of the face, but maybe just the hairline.

I love it, as long as that veil is of a heavy and bendable sort of texture rather than a flimsy movable texture...b/c if it was the latter, i would find it distracting and annoying...I would also have to say that I would probably not wear this in silver or bronze pro/am

The feather hair piece looks great. I don't think that the veil part goes that because that disrupts the beauty of the face itself. In the end, the choice is always yours. What kind of statement do you want to make?
