Finding a studio...in a different country!!

Hi! While I'm new to this forum, I hope that you all will be able to give me some advice.
Let me explain my situation: I'm a college student who has fallen in love with ballroom dancing. I am going to study abroad in Japan for a year, but I definately want to continue dancing while I'm there... The problem being that I don't know how to find the studio that will be best for me!
Does anyone know how I can find information on ballroom studios in Japan?

Japan

Last year I took a trip to Europe and since I spoke German, it was easy for me to look up in the phone book the local dance studios in Austria and Switzerland.

Currently, I am an Arthur Murray dance student and they have studios worldwide. Here is the website link to the Japanese dance studios:

http://www.arthurmurray.com/flashWS/AMIIWS1.asp

I'd suggest trying one of the studios out, get to know a few poeple and inquire by them the best dance studios in town with good rates, instructors, social life, etc. This way, you can get personal referrals, which are always better and they can help you find a great studio that fits your needs.

Good luck and have a great time over there!

Hi jocemill and welcome to DF. I found the following link for the Japanese Dancesport Federation via www.dancesport.uk.com website (www.dancesport.uk.com/world.htm#Japan)

http://www.jdsf.or.jp/

JDSF is the official member body of the International DanceSport Federation(IDSF) and Asian DanceSport Federation(ADSF). JDSF is also recognized by Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Japanese Government.

It seems to have an english version but I have not checked to see how much information is there. I hope this helps.

thanks!

Thanks to all for the replies. Just so you know, the Japan Ballroom Dance Federation website, which is in Japanese, provides links to the regional JBDF member pages, which are also in Japanese, which then list their member studios.... It was good practice for my japanese, and I now have many studios to choose from! :)

Thanks again!
