Finding energy for the home stretch

Dance competitors, a question. Do you ever get that, "oh my goodness, I've been dancing all day, I'm totally exhausted, and I have five heats left to go ... all JIVE! " feeling?

How do you conserve energy during a full day or multi-day competition? Or how do you find the energy to keep dancing, and dancing well, when you're truly exhausted? Does adrenaline do it for you? Or do you have some tips or tricks you can share?

I don't compete, but have found myself with dancing ahead of me, but completely exhausted. If I have the time I'll drink some sustaining energy mix in some warm milk. Otherwise red lollies usually do it for me!

I guess there's a reason why there aren't too many jive marathons left.

I'd say with the Tour de France going on, take notes of what they do. They're riding bicycles just about every day for three weeks. There are mountains in certain sections, and there are flat stages too. Essentially they have to maintain their energy throughout and get enough rest.

So I guess aside from the multiple bottles of water, I'd probably have many high-energy protein bars (or drinks if you prefer) in my dance bag. I would certainly try to get as much rest as you can between days.

For social dancing power naps help. I close my eyes, listen to the music, and then suddenly a song comes on that moves me and I'm up and "living it up". I guess that plenty of sleep helps also. :? That I wouldn't know as I don't seem to be getting much of that! :)

Lots of rest the nights before the comp and big, healthy, hearty meals the day before. I have never run out of energy with this method. The biggest I had to do was two rounds of heats, then a quarter, then a semi and then the final. Once the final hits, it is all adrenaline!
