Follower connections with partner and floor.

You are referring to a different autopilot than in my analogy and completely misunderstood what I meant. I can dance on autopilot the way you defined with presence or without presence. I can guarantee you the most partners won’t prefer me being on autopilot without presence.
When my dance movements started to go on autopilot I have used the free capacity to listen more carefully to what my partner is doing, what she likes to do or what of all shared stuff we could do at this very moment. I do not know if she feels these mental activities as presence but I am quite sure she feels that the mental part of dance is activated, there is life in our tanda.

When you talk about presence what is going on during those tandas?

We will have to disagree. In partner, dancing back-leading has a specific meaning with regards to a follower anticipating what is going to be led and proceeding to so regardless. (...) What you are describing is not a conventional definition or meaning of back-leading. If we can’t have a common definition of the term, then we can’t have an agreement.
Yes, it looks like we do. However, I find it intriguing that you equate back-leading with anticipating since these are two different things. Then the aspect of definitions being static and not subject to change is a different discussion, one that does not fit in here. Yet you are right that we cannot agree if do not have a common definition - nevertheless, that is not the point but the enriching of perspectives (which we just did).
