Frankie Manning Turns 92

He is amazing. He is such a nice person and has such a love of dancing. His attirude on his tapes is very encouraging and upbeat.

Long may he live! 92 is very old, IMO. But, when you love your life and love what you're doing, what the heck does old mean? I just pray I'll see him in action one day soon.

Hey. Did they do the cruise again this year?

This year we celebrated his birthday at USA Grand Nationals in Atlanta. He taught a workshop with Sylvia Sykes and they had a big presentation with videos on Saturday night. His son Chazz stayed up for a lot of the dancing (and dances very much like his father, what a dream to dance with!) but Frankie did head off to bed (or at least party in private) early.

I love Frankie, he's a wonderful person, very funny too. He reminds me of a very healthy and energetic 70 year old, hardly seems possible that he's 92!

Yeah. I'm afraid I'll burst into tears when I meet him, since his pictures and video remind me very much of my granddad, who died at almost-ninety-nine.

Gotta share this story from his workshop in Irvine, Calif, last September.

Chatting with another student before the first class, the simplicity of country line dances vs the complexity of swing "line" dances (eg, shim-sham, big apple) led me to mention that we were taught the Electric Slide within 5 minutes, whereas six weeks isn't quite enough for the Dean Collins Shim Sham. She immediately asked to teach her the Electric Slide right then and there and I basically felt that I'd be asking for trouble bringing something like that into a Lindy class. Fortunately, I was saved by the announcement to come in for the class to start.

So Frankie started the class by teaching us the Electric Slide. He said his granddaughter had taught it to him.

Go for another 92 years Frankie ;)

Hope he is coming here again some time. Was an awesome experience to meet someone that inspiring.
If I could just go to Herrang, I'm sure he'll be there again. Right?

Just few weeks ago I discovered that Fayard Nicholas died in January. Some people I know still met him. Probably similar awesome to meet.
