Hey guyyyyyyyssssssssss,
I just got home from one of the BEST nights of my life!!!!!! It's almost 6 a.m. and I'm still on a high!!! I thought I would come on here and share it (and maybe get sleepy along the way lol...) I went to Galaxy of Fame, which is like the World Superstars Dance Festival, except it is in Hong Kong. It's the most prestigious show here. I have never seen a show like this (not even in the States) so you can imagine my excitement. I got to see all the Pro's new routines!!!! And most are not even on YouTube yet!!! I was seriously in awe the entire time!!! Had the best night ever!!! As my friends described me, I seemed like I was on a sugar high from Halloween candy, having just opened all my Christmas presents while watching Disney on Ice or something lol. And I think that might actually be an understatement. I was so excited that I couldn't even sleep last night and woke up at 5:30 a.m. this morning!!!!
So, I got to sit at a table right by the edge of the floor (I spent an obscene amount of money on this, I can't even believe it!!!!). I really liked how BIG yet intimate the stadium was!! It was perfect. There were MCs, a lot of different Amateurs and Pros who came to watch as well. The show was divided into two parts. Each couple came out, did a dance, and then another couple came on, did a dance and the order just continued. I'll go through couple by couple. I love looking at dresses and seeing what type of music the Pros use so I put some notes about that but of course, you'll see all of it on YouTube when videos of WSDFS goes up (maybe October or November??)
Slavik and Anna
They opened the show with their Samba and that just set the mood for the night!!! They were awesome!! Anna literally wore what looked like tiered, colourful napkins!!! She almost looked naked but with colour but she looked SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot and you know she had the body for it. Their Cha Cha was the Love Potion # 9 one that's on YouTube. Their Paso was AMAZING and I believe it's also on YouTube. It was some Russian song. She also wore an amazing dress. Their Jive was pretty funny because Slavik just kept playing with the crowd. I don't know what it is about him but the Asians just LOVE him. I have to say I was very surprised by him. I didn't expect him to be so playful and his body is so big and muscular. I thought he was more tall, slim and quiet. He was just always going up to the crowds and at one point even waited till the crowd cheered for him to let Anna come on the floor to start her part. Sometimes it got annoying. Has he always been like this?? Their Rumba was probably the dance that got the most applause, screams and standing ovations. They danced to "You Were Always On My Mind". It was so soft and sweet, I really liked it. Overall, I think Anna was the hottest chic on the floor tonight.
Franco and Oxana
I had mixed feelings about this couple. Their Jive was kind of blah for me or maybe because it was the second number of the night and I was still in shock that all these Pros were dancing just inches away from me and that I wasn't seeing them on YouTube. They did a showdance called Whisper of a Blow. It was kind of like a soft Paso. Very interesting I thought and I really liked it. Their Cha and Samba was okay. I mean I've always liked their Samba. Oxana wore both the dresses she wore at German Open. For me, this couple really stood out with their Rumba. I was so moved that I literally couldn't move after. I forget what song they danced to but it fit perfectly!!!! I can't wait to see it on YouTube!!!!! Oh and I never realized how handsome Franco was lol....
Victor and Anastasia
You all probably know that I know nothing about Standard! But this couple is really growing on me. I think Anastasia is soooooo graceful!!! I was a bit weirded out by their song choices. They did a Viennese Waltz to Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars??!?!?! Didn't like the song for their Quickstep either. Their Tango was amazing!!
Craig Smith and Natalie Wood
They are the current British Professional Exhibition Champions and since I'm clueless about this category, I was BLOWN AWAY!!! They did 3 dances throughout the night including the one they won at Blackpool with.
Arunas and Katusha
I've never been a fan of them but I can see that they are a super strong couple. I really liked their Waltz and Tango. Their Quickstep was pretty fun too.
Riccardo and Yulia
Of course, I'm going to go on and on and on about this couple since I love them to death!!!!! Their Samba routine was sooooo fun and at first didn't start off like a Samba. Yulia came out in a black coat and when she revealed her dress, it was this colourful (pink, yellow and some other colours but mainly pink) halter dress with silver stones from the chest up. SOOOO pretty. And their Samba was their first dance (fourth act of the night) and they realllllyyyyy set the bar. Everyone was just screaming!!! It wasn't until they bowed at the end that I noticed that Riccardo danced the whole Samba in a suit, like with a vest and all!!!! Not sure how he pulled that off lol. For their Cha, omgggggggg, I think I almost died watching this!!!! Yulia wore a nude bodysuit completely covered with swarovski stones and a men's tailored shirt on top. THAT'S IT! She looked freakinggggggggg amazing!!!!!! I didn't pay much attention to the dance as I was drooling over her muscular legs!!!!).
Their Rumba was beautiful as usual!!! Yulia wore a beautiful pink dress similar to the one she wore in Blackpool 2009. The colour of the stones on her body suit was a really nice contrast (a peachy colour). I'm not sure how I felt about the song. It was a Barbra Streisand song and I'm just personally not a fan but it suited the softness. I think they did this routine earlier this year in London.
Their Jive was superrrrrr fun!!! They danced to "Don't Stop Me Now"!!!!!!! I couldn't beleive it. Super super fun. It wasn't like a themed Jive like last year's "American-themed" Jive but it was just a full on fun Jive.
Their last number was their Paso. This one was super interesting. Yulia wore a stoned bodysuite with a yellow and orange messy ruffled dress at the bottom. She had this red velvet cropped shirt that was tied right around her abs. I didn't really see the point of that shirt and it didn't really go with the whole outfit so I'm not sure what that was all about. Their song choice was pretty uncommon for a Paso. They used some Cabaret type music....something about an Italian (quite appropriate, no?) It had a very interesting mix of soft and strong moves. Overall, I really liked it.
Michael and Joanna
I was super excited to see this couple because I'm a fan of them as well. And I was excited to compare them to Yulia and Riccardo first hand. After tonight, I really felt like they were outdanced...not only by Y&R. All their routines were the same. They just revived their old ones like that Medley thing they did with the techno music and "Happy", the Samba with the slow motion stuff. They even did their famous "The Look of Love" Rumba! But I had seen all of them. Why aren't they doing new stuff? Maybe they did at WSSDF but not at this show? I dunno...just thought they were like blah tonight. And there was no feeling in their performances...it was almost like they were just there for a job, to dance and that's it. And what made me the most mad was that Michael wore the same sloppy black T-Shirt for all but one dance!!! (Sorry, I work in fashion so things like that piss me off!!)
The show ended with something very different this year (I was told). All the Latin Pros came out to do their Jive routines. It was like a competition floor! And the crowd was just roaring!!!! Each Pro had their own part of the crowd that they were trying to "play" with. About 30 seconds into their Jive, the STANDARD PROS JOINED THEM!!!! It was soooo funny but super cute!!!!
I saw that most of the Pros were wearing dresses sponsored by "Taka Dance". In terms of the dresses, there was a lot of nude, golds, lace and tiered dresses.
I'm so happy I got to experience this night. It definitely blew me away!!! It's motivating me to practice even more and I've been so upset about moving here that somehow this little night made me feel better. And watching all these videos on YouTube will be so interesting because I'll get to compare how I felt when I watched it live. Maybe I will feel differently when I watch the videos.
Anyhow, I thought I would share the wonderful experience I had in the Dancesport World today!! Hope you all enjoyed reading
