Gold Latin Syllabus

In Karina and Slavik's Innovations Rumba video, they do a continuous hip twist with a catch and release hold. They also do a spiral over two bars of music into a synchopated aida. In the syllabus book, I don't see a catch and release hold alternative or any synchopated steps other than cuban breaks. Does anyone know if these permitted in Closed Gold competitions or where I might find them in the syllabus book?

Don't know if those are specifically listed in the book but we did them and did not get invigilated on them, We did for the alternative hand hold in the mooch in Jive and starting in an open position in Paso. Also for a double underarm turn in Cha.

There can be significant differences in the rigor of invigilation at different comps. They will be very strict at a USA Dance NQE, and usually not so strict at a collegiate competition.

It's also sometimes the case that coaches aren't sufficiently well informed on what's legal. When it doubt, play it safe. It's the quality of the dancing, not the inventory of figures and variations in your performance, that gets you a recall.

Agreed. Just because you didn't get invigilated doesn't make them legal. It just means you haven't gotten busted yet. Double underarm turn is definitely illegal and I've been invigilated for alternate hand holds before.

I wanted to express these, didn't quite know how.
