Goofy Ballroom Music

There seems to be an abundance of music for ballroom dancing that is either elevator music, the wrong tempo or just outright goofy.

In the elevator music department, there is always the Betty White series.

In the goofy department, there is that song, "Waltzing Matilda".

What music have you been forced to dance to that is goofy, off-tempo or elevator?

Betty White made ballroom music? I love Betty White. I think she's hilarious. Although I doubt she'd make very good music. :?

I don't think it's the same Betty White, swinginboo, but I'm not sure. I love Betty White, too. She is a great animal rights activist.

Another elevator music producer is Laser Light, but I actually like their Tango CD, but the other ones are not worthy.

Goofy?

Two words: Lawrence Welk!!

Yeah, those things like Laserlight and their ilk come up with some real goofy stuff alright! Nothing I'd spend my hard earned cash on and I DEFINITELY would sit out those dances, I can't stand dancing to bad music, period! :x (grrrrrrrrrrrrr!)

One time, at my fave swing place I heard this really goofy tune with Hammond organ, drums and TUBA!!! What added to the sureal quality of that experience was the fact I was dancing with someone who was a good head taller than me (and I'm a healthy 6'2" . It was kind of hard to lead her (only because of the height differential) but she was such a great sport about it.

I HATE "Waltzing Mathilda"...their was a teacher at my school who would only play that waltz on her lessons. Over and over and over. Arrrrghghgh! :P

LOL! Isn't it funny how you learn all the words to the songs you hate most? And there are so many elevator-music ballroom songs to hate.

How about the Masochism Tango.

And is anyone familiar with a raunchy tune known as The Rodeo Song?

My first year of college I took a Latin class. The teacher had a cd that had all sorts of versions of the song from Titanic (can't think of the name just now, but you all know the one I mean). There was a Cha cha version of the song. And a Rhumba version. There was a PASO DOBLE version!!!
One day the teacher said to us "You've been bad today!" and put on the cd. ACKK!!! Most horrible frightening thing ever!

Oh, and the team I was later on had a comedy routine to the Masochism Tango. Pretty entertaining, actually.

"Hot-hot-hot" = Cheesy merengue from hell!

One time, I heard a tango re-make of Michael Jackson's "Beat It."

BUT, I cannot resist having fun while jitterbugging to WHAM!'s "Wake me up befor eyou go go!" George Michael RULES!

Ha, Ha, Dancementor!!! That is absolutely hilarious. Waltzing Matilda is the pseudo Australian national anthem, but I cannot imagine doing a waltz to it, or any ballroom dance for that matter. Perhaps some New Vogue, but nothing else...sheesh! ;)

MadamSamba breaks into strains of "Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, under the shade of a coolabah tree...

Weird Ballroom Music

Just this evening, we were searching for Peabody songs. And found a CD of "classics" that labeled "I wish I was in Dixie" and "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" as Peabody. Well, technically yes, but we couldn't get halfway around the floor due to laughing!

I HAVE that CD. It's one my coach made for me. UGH! I think I eventually "lost" it....
