We think of going. The timing is good as well, right before July 4, we may take couple vacation days to visit New Orleans.

We are thinking of going as well but it will be a last-minute decision depending on work issues for each of us--him: getting days off; me: finding out whether I'm going to make enough $$$ this summer to allow us to do anything other than sit home and eat beans. I've got my fingers crossed.

I got to meet the organizer of this comp at Nationals this year and she was great! I would highly encourage any couples that can to go check out this competition.

Anyone know of a cheap airfare source for this? From NYNJ area, it is fairly pricey. We'd LOVE to go (it's a lot of the same crew that used to run the Atlanta comp) but the airfare is making us pause...
We have suggested to several competitors that flying into New Orleans and renting a car may be cheaper. Especially if two couples are traveling together. The ride from the New Orleans airport to the comp site in Baton Rouge is less than 90 minutes and it is all interstate.

There are few Continental flights out of Newark airport to New Orleans, with Saturday night stay, you may be able to get a non-stop for $218-$239, with the car rental to get to Baton Rouge this still less than flying directly to BR

Several members of our new USA Dance chapter have expressed interest in going. So, this year they are there to watch. Hopefully they will be there next year to compete.
I will also be there to compete. Last night a friend of mine from NC called and he wants to dance! So we get to meet up on Thursday and compete on Friday. I love crazy things like that.
Oh and finally, I am bringing a pile of stuff to the Gumbo Consignment shop. So, if anybody here on the DF has been tempted by any of my jewelry or gowns, you can see them and try them on at the comp.

I saw your entry while working on the registrations. Welcome to the Gumbo Championships! We had a meeting earlier this week and it was mentioned you would be brining items for the consignment shop. We are excited to have everyone coming to Baton Rouge. Early registration has closed but I still have several hardcopy registrations to enter. It is shaping up to be a great competition again this year. Thanks for taking part and see you in June!

Charlie, we have already registered on-line. Are we still able to add to or remove ourselves from specific events. If yes,what is the dead line for that.

You can add or remove events up until the time Mark closes the database when he heads off to Baton Rouge (probably Thursday, June 25). Once we get set up at the hotel, you will need to see me to scratch events.
Thanks for chosing to attend our competition. We go out of our way to make the entire weekend fun for those who compete at our event.

I was there last year: it was one of the best competition I had ever been to, and that's saying a LOT. The organizers, the volunteers, and the audience were perfect. This year we're bringing along a bunch of competitors from Houston and Austin. At least among the folks I know who're going, it's going to be a tight fight.
