Oh I so feel for you - as I am about to become partner-less as well - mine is absconding interstate.

how tall is too tall? i'm 5'3 and partner is 6'5

as to filling in the time - i'm still working on it - thinking i'll do more teaching and take some private lessons in some other styles. As well a social dancing

Is going to be a long haul finding a new partner - there aren't any spare advanced guys around here - but I am moving soon so hopefully there will me more advanced or high intermediate guys in my new city

Too tall? I agree, just how tall is too tall? I kind of like tall guys sometimes, don't have to worry so much about their arms hitting my head when I spin ^_^

Well, since I am not competitive yet, but train anyways for the instructor training, I just dance constantly, down the sidewalks, in my kitchen, study dance moves and have people tape my own dancing so I can see just how I am doing, that kind of stuff. Other than that, can't be of much help, sorry -_-

Size doesn't matter when it comes to being knocked in the head. I've had some guys over 6ft 5in. who bean me in the head every turn. And I've had guys a good 5 inches shorter than me who don't even touch a hair. Part of that comes from training. The moto I heard and love is, your hand should not just go over her head, but over her hair-do.

Video taping your dancing is a great idea. When I first started WCS people kept telling me that I was rocking back to get momentum forward, totally counterproductive. It wasn't until I video taped myself that I was able to understand what they meant. Now I tape at least once a month. It comes in handy, my partner and I did a wonderful new dip, it was so accidental but gorgous, the connection was perfect. Of course we weren't taping and we havn't figured out how to get back into it. :(

I say this all the time and it usually gets a laugh and a new awareness!
My students used to knock down my ponytail-on-top-of-the-head 'do.
(It was the 80's, ok?)

So, guys, LOOK at your partner's head when you spin her! :)
She just might be taller than usual.
