has anyone ever hired a pro just for comp

Ok, I have a question, again, sorry, but you guys are fantastic. I've gotten such good advice and help from all of you thank you in advance.

Ok, I know you told me so, so I'm not going to complain, it's my own fault. My Pro flaked big time. We were scheduled to go to dancing a la carte. Myself and another one other lady. 5 of my friends were changing their schedules to come see me dance and support Jean Marc's charity.

I left him the entry fees and the ticket money before we left for a week vacation. I come home the check is not cleared, the deadline was May 1st this is May 5th. I left many vociemails and e-mails and all I got were a couple of class cancellations no response till the 8th finally he says he can't go because he has to be there because his family needs his moral support.
I know I'm lucky he didn't pass my check for $1900 but still I got scrwed royally. My friends were coming and my husband arranged some business meetings around this in the area and now we are paying tripple to go to another hotel becuase unlike my Pro he is reliable with clients.

Anyway, the major question is, if I would have known in time, would a Pro like someone from SuperShag or any other person here recommnend. I only use that name because I remember it from la Classique no slights intended, if I would have paid him to dance with me, would he had done it.? Has anyone hired a Pro in the last minute to dance in a competition.

I would have paid for time even travelling expenses and his hotel room was guaranteed by me, do you know if a pro would do a comp with me even though I don't take lessons with him?

I would have been willing to arrive a day early even, if there was hotel space (probably was) and paid for practice time with the Pro.

This comp meant a lot to me for many reasons and he flaked (no surprise) and I'm not whining, as it's my own fault, you all warned me.

I thought he straigtened out, we had a chat, he was doing well and in 3 months didn't have any cancellations other than a request for a time change but I did that too so I'm ok with little things, even a cancellation once in a while is fine. I have to do it myself sometimes.

Anyway, no whiing, the point is would a Pro, even a top name one, come to dance if I pay his fee and travelling expenses if there are any.

Obviously if it's NYC and I'm hiring someone from NYC I don't expect to pay for hotel room.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

NYC is over 3 hours away. So I think you would still be chipping in for a hotel room.

If I were you... I would call the organizers, tell them your situation. Ask Jean Marc, COMING to the competition. Then your expenses will probably be split amontht the students alrady going.

They will be able to tell you not only who is coming to the competition, but who is sorta local in your area, so you can maybe get in a last minute lesson or two this week.

If you need anything just give me a shout.

Thank you Linda, It didn't come out right, I meant if the comp was in NYC like the Empire one then it's different.

If it's ok I'll PM you

I'd have done it in a heartbeat just for the excitement ;)

Why did I not use my brains and come and ask. I had so much on my plate last week when he did this I was using my emotions instead of my brains.

Next time I know.

I don't understand this guy, I offer to pay travel expnses. Time expenses, he is the studio owner and he is the teacher, it's not like it's a huge school, I pay on time, I buy 50 hours at a time. I dance 9 hours a week and would do a bit more if he wanted to work.

I know y'all warned me but I do believe in second chances and thigns were going well. I wish I had used my brains to come here and ask for help.

I'm not proud I ask for help as I know I know nothing when it comes to the dance world business. All I know is I love to dance, dancing makes me feel good and I'm happy when I dance and I don't get nervous for comps because I take it that I'm just happy to be in it. Of course I want to win something, but if I don't that's ok too.

You guys are fantastic. I only wish I'd have come here to ask for help sooner.

maybe it's not all lost... if you call the organizers and explain, as larinda said, perhaps they will register you. and perhaps you can still find a pro to dance with you.

what level & events were you planning to dance?

don't give up just yet. :)

It's too late for me this time. I let the hotel go and I rearranged everything with my husband's business.

I told all my friends not to come and well it's just to late this time.

You all are so wonderful.

I was supposed to do 40 dances, PRO/AM newcommer and prebronze in my age group and one level down, I'm like 51 years old so whatever that means.

American smooth and latin?

I just hope Jean Marc will know it's not my fault. I'm the one who asked for the forms to begin with but hopefully he won't remember me. I don't want to take the blame for something that is not my fault.

Thank you Samina. I really appreciate the support you all are showing me.

I want a new Pro. I need a new Pro. I can't afford AM and I only do privates during the day and they have these packages that don't work for me. I have lessons paid for now, but when these are used up I want new one but I'm looking and can't find. I've done internet searches and everything. I just don't know anymore. That's why I gave him a second chance as I remember how hard it was finding him.

I'm getting totally discouraged.

I really appreciate all the support you guys are giving me.

Well goodluck. I wish you lived in Naples he he. Where do you live? Maybe someone here could recommend some options for you.

Hi Samina, I pmed you.

Easy, no I live in Montreal home of La Classique. I'm American though.

You guys are amazing with your support. I'm truely touched and honored that you guys are rallying like this.

This comp meant a lot to me becuase my friends were coming because May 22nd is my 8 year breast cancer checkup. One of my friends had a recurrance and she lives in the next town over from Springfield. She was coming, she is on chemo and she was buying a new dress for the occasion as I promised her she could have a twill at the social dance hour.
My friends were coming to support me and the checkup the following week.

I would get my money back for the remaining lessons and look for another coach, pronto. Not cool.

Sorry to hear of the trouble.

Thank you Merrylegs.

I called the hotel to see if I can get my room back, and they are fully sold out for the saturday. That's the day of the comp I would be in and it starts at 8am so I don't see how I can not have a room there for saturday night.

Oh well it just wasn't meant to be. I just hope this isn't a bad omen for my checkup.

You guys are truely amazing to rally the way you did.

I called my hubby and he said if I rearranged everything he would still go and I know my friends would still come at least some but the hotel is full.

I called them before I called the organizers, don't want to bother them for nothing.

Oh well.

I hope I get a good checkup so I can keep dancing and maybe next time.

OK, so we're taking suggestions on pros in Montreal. MUST speak English though (I went back and browsed your original thread ;) ). Start the suggestions, people

I tried to get my hotel room back. They are sold out. :( Thank you all for rallying for me.

I'm truely touched. I don't contribute much and I always seem to come to all of you for help. I hope to someday return the help.

I wish eveyrone good luck who is going to a la carte or any other recent competition.

Thank you again.

any advice and info is always welcome.

There are several hotels right next to each other there. Unfortunately, I don't remember their names, but I know I've seen them when I drive by. You could try to get one just across the street.
