Have showcase, need outfit! Advice needed.....

I'm doing a showcase in December (two weeks!) at our studio. We are dancing swing to "The House Is Rockin" by Stevie Ray Vaughn (its very fast, so its actually a jive, but my instructor does not do jive, thus it's a swing...long story!). Problem is, I'm used to having to find an outfit for a waltz or a rumba, not a swing. I have no earthly idea what to wear! For those of you who have itunes, will you check out the song on there and tell me what you see when you listen to it? (I dont know how to link a song on here or I'd put it here myself). I've having trouble identifying a time period to attach it to with regards to clothes, and thus have NO IDEA what I'm going to wear. It doesnt have to be sparkly or anything...I thought about the group jive they did on DWTS to "Rebel Yell" and how they wore all black, but its more of a hard rockin song than mine, so I'm not sure that would work. Plus, all their outfits are tight, and although I'm average size, I carry my excess in the middle and thus wouldn't dare do the tight capri pant thing(a spare tire just wouldn't go with the outfit). Anyway, I have looked at outfits all over the internet, hoping something would jump out at me, but nothing. Any ideas?

Well, I'm doing a jive routine to Sugarland's "Down In Mississippi" and I'm wearing a black fringe skirt I ordered from RainbowShiu with a black and blue corset top. Does that help at all? I think a fringe skirt would be a good idea for you too, fringe is great for jive because it makes you look really fast and because it hangs away from the body, it can cover a multitude of sins.:-P

I was thinking a fringe dress. You can find them on the internet for roughly $99. Not sure if that's a bit much for you.

I love fringe dresses/skirts! Have been wanting a fringe dress, actually.....but instructor vetoed fringe dress when I mentioned it after we first started practicing for this thing. I think because it is very jive-ish and he likes swing so much better because it is more "american" or whatever. I, on the other hand, love jive and fringe and all that goes with it! I think I will look for a fringe skirt...perhaps that will be a good compromise. Musicchica86, does your skirt have bloomers built in? I am going to be swinging around and over so I need to make sure I dont flash anyone...I guess as long as the skirt fits snug enough to not come up then I dont need them built in, just matching.

Thanks for the advice! I'm starting to get a little stressed over this... the routine is very fast and very hard and we don't have it down as good as I was hoping to at this point. Ad that to the fact that I dont know what to wear....well, I'm sure you've all been there at some point. lol!

Thanks again! Any further ideas or websites, let me know!

^^That dress is quite cute!!

BTW, don't let anp fool you. I've seen her routine, it's really good, and will be great in time for her showcase!

Sorry for the mini-hijack, but whilst I was seeking a link to a pic of the red fringe dress, I found this page:

In particular, I'm wondering about the boot-cut spandex pants about 2/3 of the way down the page (#79208 ) for my partner. I suspect due to the low price that they may not be that great, but what he's wearing at comps now isn't so great either (I think they're just black dress pants, and they just don't show off his attributes well).

I think those pants look great :) I'm sure that if they were $200 they would be nicer, but for that price? Go for it :D

Well, one can only hope. Considering that we have three practices left and can just now get thru it without stopping, quite sloppily, I might add, I have my doubts. I think if I can find an outfit to wear it will alleviate some of my worries and it will turn out ok.

Thanks to all who posted! Ya'll have been much help and I appreciate it :)

Here's the skirt I ordered from RainbowShiu, and I love it!

Yes, it does have bloomers built in, but since it fits close to the body, I doubt it'll fly up when you flip.:-P Anyway, this is the first thing I've ordered from her and I love it!

Love the skirt! About how long is it on you? Above the knees? I really do need to look thru all her stuff because the skirt you got and the dress danceislove found are both great!

Thanks again, guys!

The other half of the solution is for you to pick up some software--Adobe Audition or Sound Forge or some such--and slow down the music. :)

I would soooo do it...but instructor swears it will get slower once we can comfortably dance thru the whole thing. Says its already sounding slower to him...
