And, if so, how much? And what was your experience of your ballet training affecting your learning of Ballroom/AT/Salsa/Swing, etc....Partner Dancing? ( Is this our 'blanket' term?)

I clicked under a year, because technically i did do ballet, for about 6 months. But i was a very small child.
the way it affected my dancing is this.
First got me aware thare is such a thing as flexibilty training. This led me to gymnastics. Gymnastics lead to circus arts. The circus troupe im in is full of swing dancers. This lead me to learning swing.
Also, the fact that im strong, and have good body awareness aswell as somewhat subperb (sp?) flexibility have all led to me learning to dance a little bit quicker.
So ballet hasnt influenced my dancing directly, but through extension, yeah.

I voted for under one year although I actually had more than a year of ballet. I had ballet when I was 11 for 2 years prior to my figure skating days. Then, I started figure skating competitively, with that, I had "ballet training" once a week (but it's a "ballet" program for figure skaters, which I don't really want to call it ballet, more like a body awareness thing rather than any serious ballet....).

I didn't vote for many years, because my ballet experience was nothing serious, or intensive. More like something I did for fun, and to help my skating.

My previous experiences with ballet did not affect much of my ballroom dancing.

That sounded stuck up. Im not. For my art form im far behind in all those things. What i meant was, compared to the avergae 16 year old girl. And i should disclude body awareness from that list, maybe compared to a 5 year old.

i really REALLY want to take ballet in addition to my other training. i feel it would help me with many of my issues. there's even a beginner class at the same studio where i take my saturday salsa training, conveniently an hour before the salsa begins.

i just can't afford to pay for another class right now. it's bumming me out.

Actually i went through the same thign at the beginning of this year, i wanted to start taking ballet but there was no begging classes, i was really bumbed.

Just started ballet again myself (first class last Monday). It is an adult class. However, all of the adults are pretty advanced except me. I find it inspiring. I've always loved a challenge. ;)

I've taken ballet since i was four and took up Standard and Latin about a year ago and i constantly get into trouble from my instructors for using too much ballet technique, it is hard to untrain yourself. However the ballet does help in keeping my leg lines nice and straight in cha cha, and also made me flexible also in addition to the jazz and contemp. dancing i was doing

I've had many years of ballet/tap/jazz prior to my taking up ballroom. I had to "unlearn" some things, but the more advanced I became, the more there was interconnectivity between them.

I've had many years of ballet before starting ballroom (and still take it) and it hasn't really hurt my ballroom technique in a major way, although it did take me a while to get used to not turning my feet out, especially in tango. I still feel like my feet are pointing towards each other when they're really just parallel. But my instructor has pointed out that I pick up steps and corrections much faster than his other students so I attribute that all to ballet.
