Heel spur

Anyone use inserts to contracheck the problem? Thinking of buying one for my developing heel spur. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I'd start by seeing a good doctor. It may be hard to find the right specialist (I haven't yet) but getting an orthopedic referral is a good start. A podiatrist who either deals with dancers or has danced themself would be ideal.

There's a cause for it; the orthotic may be the right thing but there are undoubtedly other things to be done in parallel. Trust me I've been largely not dancing for a month and a half due to this :-(

Thanks for the info White ChaCha. Do you still have the pain or tenderness? I heard it can take over a year to completely get rid of. I figure i'll try to get ahead of the game with the orthopedic stuff. I wonder how common is this among dancers.

I hadn't heard anyone talk about it unil I started asking people whether they'd had it. A number of dancers I know currently manage the pain.

At close to month two, I find that it hurts but the recovery is quicker provided I don't overdo it. But a proper competition training regime would be overdoing it.

I stretch a lot; up to 4 times a day. The side with the PF is still quite a bit tighter than the other side. Some people have told me that it never goes completely away once you've had it and you have to manage it for a long time. But it is manageable, and by higher-level dancers than me. So there's hope.
