Help! Need Recipe: Light Tempura Batter

I'll be hosting a Japanese-themed dinner in a few weeks and I'd like to get this one right before then.

I'm looking for light, fluffy, and crispy---I've tried several recipe variations (egg, very cold water, & flour, with different oil temperatures) but the batter comes out in different variations of BAD.

If you have a time-tested recipe you could share, I would be most grateful.
(Please send via PM if you don't want the recipe made public--and it will be kept private.)

My thanks in advance...

one part flour, one part lager, whisk, let sit for about a half hour. if you have gluten issues, use rice flour.

This is what I love about DF.

Whether you want to know about a beautiful spinturn, a pair of shoes for Lindy hop, how to handle a first date, or a good recipe for tempura batter, you're covered. Very cool. :-D

Good luck, max. :-)
