It's Wonderful

I'm leaving for a social in 5 hours, and I need to decide what to wear. I had planned on wearing an adorable new brown dress with tan shoes, but the tan shoes don't fit  (they just arrived in the mail). So do I wear the dress with black shoes? Or choose a new outfit that goes with black shoes? Usually I like to have some continuity in my outfit, and it just bugs me to have mismatched shoes. But then I wonder - does anyone else notice? So the options are - Brown dress with black shoes, Black dress with black shoes (but this is out of town, and last time I went to this scene I wore the black dress), or Black Pants and Casual Shirt. It's a valentine dance if that makes any difference. Thanks for your thoughts!

Disclaimer: I'm tired and overworked, so a simple decision has become a much more taxing decision. Plus I thought I had it all figured out. Wahhhhh, why can't the new shoes fit??

*giggle* I'm dying to vote for nuttin. Think I will, actually.

How noticeable is the black dress? Knock-down, drag-out gorgeous? Or just a simple little black dress? If the latter, you could probably make it different by changing the accessories. :?

*giggle* Am I the only one who voted? Sorry. I couldn't resist being silly.

I never go for casual. I'm just a dress-up kinda gal, so I'm probably biased.

My take? Unless it's super-distinctive, a little black dress can look completely different depending on what you wear with it. So that's probably what I'd attempt to do -- go through my accessories and find something to change the look of the LBD. But that's just me.

Brown dress and black shoes? No. Sad to say, I probably wouldn't do it. :?

exactly...people dont remeber exactly what you wear...just whether or not youlooked really good...and brown well, meh...add a splashy scarf to the black or some hot jewelry and you are good to go...

Which dress do you feel best in? At socials I go to, lots of people wear shoes that don't match their clothes, becuase they don't have dance shoes in every color! For Valentine's Day, how about the black with a red scarf or other accessories?

I would go with the black dress, but it is very distinctive - people comment on it all the time. Humph.... quite a pickle. I could try to change it up a bit, but I don't really own any accesories. Just not my thing. I'll have to mull it over some more. Please keep discussing! I appreciate it!

The reason I'm even still considering the brown dress is that it's brand new - haven't had a chance to wear it out on the floor yet, and I'd love to see how it does. Also it's a dark brown, so it's not so glaring with the dark shoes. But still - the black is gorgeous, so maybe I should just put on some jewlry I never wear and figure no one else will remember! Tsk tsk tsk.

seems like the fourth choice is to tempting. Usually the lightning isn't so good at dance venues. If the dress is a really dark brown the wrong colour shoes will probably go unnoticed.

Yeah. I can understand how appealing a new dress can be. :? Hmm. The problem with brown and black is that it's hard for me to tell, over the internet, how they'll look. Sometimes the combination works. Sometimes it really doesn't.

I have a brown, tan and black leopard print dress that totally rocks -- okay with brown, black or tan shoes. That works. But I also have some chocolate brown things that look really silly with brown.

It's hard to say which situation is yours, from here. :?

Okey-dokey, somebody needs to vote for something other than nuttin'.

Another choice not on the poll is a silk skirt and black top, but I don't think the top is terribly flattering. Still, it's another choice.

Well, I tried on the brown dress with black shoes, and it just looks too summery. Maybe if they had open toes, but the solid black does look way too heavy. So! Pants, dress, or skirt. I'm thinking dress, but remain undecided

You could always do what I do. Wait until five minutes before you have to leave, and eeny-meeny-miny-mo.

Which feels best? What will you be most comfortable in? I generally don't like to be all mismatchy, but occasionally I just put on what feels good and go. I figure if I attract attention to myself because I'm having so much fun, whatever I'm wearing won't matter nearly as much. I like to think I attract people more with my personality than my look.
