Heritage 2011

Hi,

I'm thinking of going to Heritage next year (2011).... What I'd like to know is how I should travel. I can drive but it'll take probably 8 or 9 hours, and I need to drive through the Smokey Mountains from the Tennessee side. So, if I drive, I'm taking a risk .... in terms of weather.

Should I drive? Should I fly? For the flying option, what airport is the best, Charlotte, Greenville, or Asheville?

Any inputs would be appreciated!

Ashville has an airport. If your flying from the West Coast (as I tend to do - I have family that lives there) - It's Lax or Ont to Dallas and Dallas to Ashville.

If you're coming across TN on I-40, the mountains are seriously no big deal. You hit them a few miles before the TN/NC border and are all the way through them in an hour or less. Tractor-trailers aren't allowed in the left lane, and there's rarely much traffic. By the time Heritage takes place in early March, bad weather is at a minimum--I've been to Heritage twice and both years it was gorgeous early spring weather, and if there are any severe weather forecasts, it's quite easy to get more information.

ive always flown to charolette then to ashville. thinking about driving from florida this year just to see that part of the country.

I'm having the same issues.....i need to take a flight into charlotte and was considering renting a car to go into ashville bc I'd have to spend another couple of hundreds to get a connecting flight..it would be a 2 hour drive from charlotte but I'm wondering about the safety bc I'm a young woman in mid 20's....it kind've makes me upset that they would be put a comp somewhere where it is difficult getting in and out of...

It's really not that difficult to get in and out of--weather is the only concern, and it's usually not a big deal.

Thanks all for the info. I was really worried about the weather but I guess it won't be that bad, especially in March.

Well two years ago I think some people did have trouble getting in, so I'm not saying it's not possible to have trouble, but I don't think it's that different than with other comps in other cities.

I've never been to this comp. Is it a small, medium, or large size comp? What's the competition like? Do many pros go or is it more amateur & pro-am?

I've heard it's absolutely gorgeous out there.

its one of the most prestigious comps in the us i would say. alot of quality pro's and am's make it. quarters and semi's in all the pro/am heats usually. usually put on a great show as well. it is my favorite comp in the country thats for sure.

I'm wondering whether to do this comp, St. Louis, or both. What would you recommend? Is St. Louis worth going to?

I love heritage, there are usually a large number of entries..I did not have quarter finals in my pro/am heats this past year though there were some and I have had them in previous years...it is still a beautiful venue, well run, and a large comp....I enjoy it a great deal...I also drive to this comp...while I have experienced mild snowfall for two of the 3 or 4 times I have gone, it has not been excessive or stressful to drive it

Can only speak to the pro-am latin competition, in my division in the last couple of years it's been a straight final if I remember right. I have not competed at this comp, but have kept an eye on it because people speak so highly of the venue. Sadly it's been too expensive to get to and compete vs. the level of competition so far...
