Deadline for hotel rate is coming up - November 1.

$85.00 Mon-Thur, $115.00 Fri & Sat, and $85.00 Sun, plus applicable taxes.
Call Luxor Las Vegas at 888-777-0188 with a major credit card for your reservations.

Who's going??

Will be there Thurs-Sun.

We're going but we haven't booked our hotel yet. We stayed at Excalibur last year, which is next door to the Luxor but, it was not our favorite hotel to say the least.

I'm going dancing smooth and standard. Vegas is really hurting now. Call and ask for there best rate. I got the same rooms I always get for the comp for 59.00 and 79 weekend. Plus I got these from the Luxor not online.

To be fair, the rates for the hotel were probably locked in by the organizer a long time ago, and maybe the hotel was unwilling to agree to renegotiate based on present economic conditions.

MQ mentioned something about looking for restaurant recommendations on "the LV thread." Well, I can't find the thread, so I'm posting here.

I'm going to Holiday Dance Classic but it's going to be an in-and-out thing for me. Fly in Saturday afternoon, watch the comp Saturday night, dance Sunday afternoon/early evening (last year I got done around 7:30pm), fly home Monday.

I'll be staying at the Luxor, which I hate, but it's convenient. This time though I got smart, and I specifically booked a room in the Tower rather than the Pyramid. The Tower rooms are a LOT nicer than the ones in the Pyramid. The rates on the web site were quite good, too, since Vegas is in a travel downturn right now.

Given a choice, I'd stay at the MGM or THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay, but if this year's event schedule is anything like last year's it's just not practical for me. There's too much time between my events to sit around the ballroom, and not enough time to hike all the way back to the MGM or even Mandalay Bay.

As far as restaurants go, Mandalay Bay and the Luxor have a bunch of good but pricey ones. Last year I went out to a raucous dinner at Fusia (Luxor). Food was very good, drinks were great, atmosphere was sophisticated fun. Some friends went to Red Square (Mandalay Bay). I was going to go with them but there was a mis-communication and they ditched me -- but I got to eat their leftovers, and man was it good. It's basically modern-nouveaux-Russian fare. Yummy.

I'm up for doing a fun dinner either night, with Sunday after I dance being my preference. Any takers? Let's get together and have a great time!

Mandalay Bay is gorgeous. Nice wine shop in there, as soon as you pass through from the Luxor.

Thanks for the info on restaurants. Wouldn't mind trying some Russian food! Someone else also recommended Alex at the Wynn. Anyone have any experience with it? I won't be dancing after all, so food, drink and entertainment are in for more of my time.

Laura, you're welcome to join my friend (also from SF!) and I for dinner on Saturday, if you like. It'll probably be at Alex.

As for the hotel; I just received an email from the Luxor for a "stay 2, get 1 free" offer. It is promotion code PDSTAY4 if anyone is interested. It may or may not work out to less than what you're paying.

I'll be there working in the afternoon a couple of sessions and be there to watch on Sunday night. Good luck to all who are competing at Holiday.

Thank you, Laura, for reminding me about the Tower vs. the Pyramid rooms. I just called and changed my reservation. It was $20 more, but worth it, I think, for the nicer room and to be closer to the ballroom.

I haven't been to this comp in a few years but I'm really looking forward to it.

Mystere

Has anyone seen Mystere? Need some reviews....

I haven't seen that one but IMHO it's impossible to go wrong with Cirque du Soleil (I've seen 5 other shows - all amazing).
