How are your practices going?

As it has happened to 3 out my last 4 pair though, I'm thinking that maybe there was a less-than-quality batch of metal used by whomever makes the posts for them. The first I thought was a fluke, but now it's a trend... so maybe worth an e-mail, just so they are aware.

It's a fairly dangerous way for them to break - it could result in a sprained/broken ankle! Definitely worth bringing to their attention.

Yes, for your own safety, it would be good that they were made aware. I was meaning exactly this, rather than the refund/replacement thing. If it was happening to others as well, it might indeed save someone a broken ankle!

Practice today, so lovely. I haven't been able to wash the hall floor after the latest series of public functions (Too soon after op) and it finally was done at my request and explanation as to why I couldn't do it myself yet (I usually keep the floor washed in return for free, unlimited use of the space). It felt amazing to really move without slipping or sticking. Oh dear, so unfit though, half an hour was more than enough:confused:

I'm re-reading The Inner Game of Tennis again. I've used it before primarily for how to quiet self-judgements during competitions, but this time I'm focussing more on how to use it during practice. The results this week have been pretty amazing. I gave a copy to one of the New Guys as well. He hasn't had time to read to it yet (examination this week), but it'll be exciting if/when he does.

Well, I only go through about 4 pair a year (used to be 3, but I'm dancing more), so I doubt that I'm the type of customer that would get a response... also, it's not happening right away, so I can't really complain and ask for a replacement/discount on a new pair. They are lasting a few months.

I had the post holding the heel tip break within the first week on two consecutive pairs of Latin shoes this year - I told the vendor, and the vendor told the manufacturer, and the manufacture was going to take it up with his supplier.

The vendor also gave me store credit for the shoes.

At last night's practice I tried to internalize the choreography for the showcase routine - while I know the order of the figures/sequences, we haven't figured out all the alignments yet. So trying to practice the showcase routine turned into a mess, especially as the studio where I practice is much smaller than my lesson studio. I turned my attention instead to bronze waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba, paso and jive as a leader.

It's weird getting back into a regular schedule for practice for the wedding. Frame is by far the hardest so far, as well as driving forward with having another person infront of me. It's also weird to be surrounded by mirrors. For years we would practice in at our collegiate club's gym which had no mirrors (let alone climate control in the summer) so having mirrors is really awesome and weird.

Rough couple of solo practices recently. I've been slacking a bit too much in the solo practice department, and it shows as I'm no longer executing routines without thinking, which in turn causes me to fall behind the music at times. I'm also probably demanding more quality than I used to, which coupled with the higher tempo of USAD music vs. NDCA is making prepping for Gumbo especially ego-bruising. Expecting it'll get better as I get more consistent with the solo work, though!

Missed this post when you first made it, but make sure to come say hi at Gumbo! And get ready for some 1:30 minimum rounds.

Great practice today. Frame and tango is falling back into place. Muscle memory is coming back. West coast swing not so much. My connection is all wonky. I think I need to go to a social and work out the kinks and the tightness...

Worked on my head position from a Leader's perspective in the Half Natural; and worked on maintaining consistent foot pressure throughout New Yorkers first in my flat shoes and then in heels. Ran though the choreography of the showcase routine. Every mirror in the studio where I practice was covered in jungle-themed junk so I couldn't get any visuals as how it looked.

Ordered more shoes today, and included this issue - just as a simple "I thought you may want to know". They've agreed to pass it on.

Awesome, I definitely will! I'm pretty sure I've read good things in one or more of the collegiate ballroom FB groups about your DJ'ing, I'm excited to hear what you're (metaphorically) spinnin'!
